Ex-NFL offensive lineman, Tre’ Johnson of Washington Commanders (formerly the Redskins) has died at the age of 54. His wife, Irene, posted on Facebook on February 15 that he passed away “suddenly and unexpectedly” while they were on a family trip that day.
“The loss really upsets and shocks his four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ, and Eden, his extended family, his friends, and me,” Irene wrote. “If you know Tre’, you know he was a very caring and loving father to his children. Tre’ was a father who completely relied and loved his kids. He always went to their games, he was at every practice and he didn’t just support them he was their biggest fan until he took his last breath.”

Besides highlighting Tre’ work in sports, Irene talked about his love for French bulldogs and biking. She called his NFL career, where he was with Washington and the Cleveland Browns, “tremendous.”
According to Irene, “He was well known for his toughness and power while playing in Washington.” “He really enjoyed the game and was very proud of the fact that he knew so much about it,” she added.
Around the time he left the game, Tre’ started showing interest in education. Among other things, he was a history teacher at Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland, a place where he was tremendously loved not only by the students he guided but also by the whole faculty. She also said that unfortunately, he got sick and had to go on leave.
“We are going to miss him a lot,” she wrapped up.
Tre’ Johnson Honored by Washington Commanders at His Passing
Irene posted a picture of Tre’ Johnson during the game between Washington and Jacksonville in 2002. In addition, she posted a number of photos showing him with his family and friends.
Washington chose Johnson with the 31st pick in 1994 after his college career at Temple University, according to ESPN. He was with the team until 2001, and then he had a season with the Cleveland Browns.
Johnson went back to Washington in 2002 to play his last NFL season. Throughout his career, he took part in 93 regular-season games and was on the starting line-up 72 times, according to NBC Sports.
In the statement from the Washington Commanders, they expressed their grief: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former Washington All-Pro guard Tre’ Johnson. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.”
