Demi‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Lovato Discovers New Life Through Cooking as She Recovers from an Eating Disorder

At the age of 33, Demi Lovato opened up about how cooking has been a crucial therapeutic element in her recovery from an eating disorder.
She talks about her healing process and her love of food in her forthcoming cookbook, ONE PLATE AT A TIME: Recipes for Finding Freedom with Food.
“I first started cooking maybe three years ago. I am by no means an expert, but I am someone who is in recovery from an eating disorder,” Lovato informed Kylie Kelce on the January 15 recording of the podcast Not Gonna Lie.
Lovato has been very transparent about her struggles with eating disorders, even in the past she confessed that she still has to deal with eating disorder issues “every day.” ‍

‌‍‍Demi‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Lovato on How Cooking Helped Her Restore Her Relationship with Food

Demi Lovato admitted to Kylie Kelce that, at the beginning of her recovery, she was extremely overwhelmed by food. She even went so far as to cry in a grocery store because she considered food to be “the enemy.”
Apart from that, her healing journey also pointed to the fact that cooking was one of the most effective tools for mending that relationship. Lovato went on to say, “I discovered that cooking through a snack or a meal slowly gives me the confidence and trust in food that I had always lacked, and it actually becomes a fun thing to do…” She has come to associate cooking not only with trust but also with joy by making her own ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌food.

Demi‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Lovato’s Cookbook: Healing and Simple Recipes

Demi Lovato’s new cookbook, ONE PLATE AT A TIME, releasing on March 31, talks about how cooking has played such a huge role in her recovery. She wrote on Instagram that the kitchen was her therapy space where she discovered a new “freedom and joy” in the simple and comforting dishes. For Lovato, cooking is now an “act of love and kindness” towards herself and the rest of the world.
Talking to Kylie Kelce, Lovato said that the book is also really good for beginners. Regardless of whether a person is in recovery or not, the easy recipes and kitchen tips are meant to be accessible for everyone. “The process of cooking has worked as a therapy for me and my recovery,” she ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌said.

Kylie‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Kelce Talks About Demi Lovato Honesty in Eating Disorder Recovery

Among other things, Kylie Kelce, 33, thanked Demi Lovato for being so open about her meal plan recovery and demonstating it through her latest cooking book. Kelce, who along with husband Jason Kelce has four daughters, indicated that such talks help a lot those who are still keeping their suffering to themselves, silently.
“I really, really appreciate you not only creating this cookbook, but just even starting that conversation,” Kelce said. “You being open to discussing it is so incredibly special for other people who are also going through it.”
Having four daughters of her own, Kelce particularly highlighted how valuable it is when a celebrity like Demi Lovato bravely talks about such widespread things that they also deeply affect her. ” I really appreciate that you were so open about your process and your recovery… it’s important to have people who will speak up and say that it’s okay to have these ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌feelings.”
