Guy Fieri Tells of Health Update After His Accident That Caused Him to be in a Wheelchair: ‘The Worst Thing I’ve Been Through for the Last 20 Years’
Guy Fieri Gives Update on His Health After Accident and Shares Excitement for Super Bowl Tailgate
The famous chef Guy Fieri, 57, has been recuperating after a fall incident that caused him to be in a wheelchair for eight weeks.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Fieri talked about the tough holiday season and how it made him appreciate the simple act of being able to move around again. “I’m doing better. It was definitely a trying holiday, but you know what, you get some real appreciation for having the ability to just get up and walk around and do everything you used to,” he said.
Fieri loves to keep fit by doing CrossFit and hiking, so he revealed that the injury and being inactive have been a bit of a downer for him. “Eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of wild. But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy.”
He also revealed plans for his event, Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate Presented by SpotOn, which he is hosting before the Super Bowl.

Guy Fieri Recalls Brutal Quad Injury and Surgery
Guy Fieri tore his quad muscle quite badly after he fell down a flight of stairs when he was filming a new series of his, Flavor Town Food Fight. He said that “one foot went forward and the other foot got caught on the threshold,” and thus the injury happened.
Came along the fall, Fieri had his operation last November. Although the star of Food Network is looking forward to being out and about again, he has to agree that the healing process hasn’t been nice at all.
Guy Fieri Recovers from “Worst” Injury in 20 Years
Guy Fieri has set his mind on being up and about by the time the Super Bowl comes around, even though the journey towards full recovery has been quite challenging following a quad injury. “My doctors are like, ‘We know you are eager to get moving, but let’s not go back to where we were again.’ And I’m like, ‘We are NEVER going back there!’ I’ve never had anything as bad as this in the last 20 years,” he jested.
This injury turned out to mean quite a different Thanksgiving for the star of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. He mentioned that his 20-year-old son, Ryder, was the one who came to the rescue after he had sent a text message to his dad offering to help with the holiday preparations.

Guy Fieri’s Son Ryder Takes Over Thanksgiving; Family Gets Ready for Super Bowl Tailgate
Guy Fieri’s son, Ryder, 20, really stepped up and ran the kitchen this Thanksgiving while his dad was resting after a quad injury. Fieri told Fox News Digital that Ryder had texted him saying that his training and cooking experiences at school had really prepared him for his “time to shine.” Fieri was so proud of him not only because he was happy that Ryder simply volunteered to help without being told to.
Next month, Ryder together with his brother Hunter, 29, and cousin Jules, 26, will be in Santa Clara for the Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate. Fieri told PEOPLE jokingly about his sons being available for the big event: “We can’t get them to return a text every time you want to text… but come Super Bowl weekend, everybody’s available now.”
