This Supercut of Seinfeld Movie References is Truly Fantastic

While any Seinfeld fan will know that the show is packed with cultural references, you may be surprised by how many movie call-backs there are.

The 90s sitcom Seinfeld is regularly cited for its massive influence on pop culture and comedy. Created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, the show follows the misadventures of four 30-somethings in New York City. The series is famous for allowing its character to behave immorally with little to no negative consequences in any meaningful way. Due to this Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer rarely grow or change, leading them to repeat their mistakes over and over again.

Despite (or perhaps because of) this, audiences fell in love with Seinfeld, allowing the sitcom to flourish for nine seasons. Over the course of those nine seasons are a myriad of movie references, so many in fact that it takes nearly 12 minutes to run through them. Collected by YouTuber Yaron Baruch, the high-quality video shows a ton of great moments in the show, while also playing scenes from the movies they are referencing.

Hilariously, it begins with the JFK-inspired loogie scene which is especially notable due to Wayne Knight actually appearing in both versions of the scene. In fact, the same is true of the Basic Instinct reference from Newman’s interrogation scene in Seinfeld.

While some of them are obvious, like the previous example, others are more subtle. Even fans of the 1989 version of Batman, for instance, might not realize George’s line to Susan’s parents is actually a reference to the Michael Keaton line from that film.

Among the other films references in Seinfeld are a few more broad ones and some that are surprisingly subtle, including In the Line of Fire, Fugitive, Midnight Cowboy, Marathon Man, and a host of others. For the full list, check out the video below.
