John Mulaney is going to Wrigley Field to perform a show and describes it as a “very honored” hometown show
A Historic Hometown First
John Mulaney will become the first comedian ever to perform at Wrigley Field.
On Sept. 22, Mulaney shocked the audience at a Cubs game with the unexpected but very charming act of leading the crowd in the 7th inning stretch. But, he went further than that. The comic also appeared in the Marquee Sports Network booth to give out the news of his Mister Whatever stand-up tour coming to Chicago next summer.
From the press box, he said: “We have breaking news. I am so happy and proud to say: July 11, 2026, first-ever comedian to play Wrigley Field.”

Ready for the Big Stage
After the news was made public Mulaney thought about the magnitude of the event just how huge a milestone this was. “It is very cool”, he said, pointing out the size of Wrigley Field.
“That is really a 35,000-seat venue, but if I had the talent of [former Cubs player] Mark Grace just to go out there and do your thing tearing cigarettes, then I could easily confront this audience,” he quipped. “I’m so looking forward to it.”
Recognized by His Local Community
Mulaney-camera style video from the venue-which was once home to him in Chicago and where he came back for My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman in 2024, talked again about his joy of creating comedy history.
“It’s a great honor for me,” he expressed. “For the first time ever in history, a comedian went on Wrigley to perform a comedy show. In my hometown, here.”

A Milestone Show for Wrigley and Mulaney
A press release states that Mulaney’s Wrigley Field event is the “stadium’s moment of true milestone in its history and Mulaney’s career,” thus making him “one of the very few artists of the world most eminent who have turned [Wrigley’s] stage into their own.”
Mulaney began his Mister Whatever tour in June, initially announcing dates through December. The tour will be now going on till 2026 and will be bigger with Mulaney’s show at Wrigley Field labeled “a run’s centerpiece moment.”
Fans Get Their Wish
After Mulaney shared additional dates for his Mister Whatever tour on Instagram, fans in his home city consistently requested that he come to them.
“John Mulaney comes to Chicago challenge: impossible,” one fan quipped under the post about the August dates. Another begged, “John, how have we in Chicago hurt you that you won’t come here?”

Star-Powered Tour
John Mulaney has been accompanied by a remarkable series of guest appearances during his Mister Whatever tour, which he kicked off in June. As a result, at each of the places Nick Kroll, Fred Armisen, Martin Short, and Eugene Levy have been in attendance, the actor making a celebrity-packed evening of stand-up comedy has been the only one.
