After being tag team champions for almost a year in 2020, it was time for Kenny Omega and Hangman Page to move on to single’s competition to reach stardom.  With Omega and Page being fan favorites and their outstanding talent, it was inevitable for them to be the title picture.

Many have been anticipating a match between these two for quite some time.  In a number one contender match to face Jon Moxley for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, both competitors left it all on the line.  Considering there were no fans due to the pandemic, it was a solid match.  With high-flying and intense back-and-forth action, Omega and Page pushed each other to their limits.  Kenny Omega emerged victorious to earn a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

9. Kenny Omega vs. Christian Cage Rampage 2021

With Kenny Omega being the AEW World Heavyweight Champion and the biggest heel in the company, everyone was coming for him, including the newly signed Christian Cage.  The anticipation between the two Canadian wrestlers was already growing.  Once Tony Khan added their match to the new show Rampage, everyone knew it would be special.

Storytelling played a key factor in this feud, and Omega and Cage nailed it.  The promo game was epic as Omega easily drew heat with the microphone.  Cage didn’t back down either as he spits fire on the mic himself.  It made for another five-star match for Omega.

Let’s be honest, everyone expected Omega to win, given that Cage just hit the scene while Omega was in the prime of his career.  Omega tried to end the match with the One Winged Angel on the steel chair.  But his dirty antics fired back as Cage slammed his head to the chair while the ref was distracted.  Cage pulled off the upset to beat Omega.  While it wasn’t a title match, it was a defining moment for Cage as he pulled off one of the biggest upsets in AEW.  Brilliant work by those two icons.

The Jungle Boy hype was real amongst fans in 2021.  Becoming a top babyface was a huge accomplishment for this young competitor, so why not put him against the biggest heel in AEW at the time, Kenny Omega?  Though it was only a short feud, Omega and Jungle Boy turned it into gold.

The thought of Jungle Boy winning the AEW World Heavyweight Championship was mesmerizing, especially since it would have been a great underdog moment.  But Kenny Omega was not about to let that happen.  Kenny Omega was relentless in his promos leading up to the match, saying to Jungle Boy that “there’s a difference between being a Jungle Boy and a Jungle Man.”  Omega implying Jungle Boy was not ready to be the top guy, attracted major heat.  Jungle Boy was instantly over.

The match itself was exciting, with lots of fun-filled action and great chemistry.  With the AEW World Heavyweight Championship on the line, Jungle Boy was determined to play spoiler.  He gave Omega a run for his money.  But Omega was too much to handle as he picked up the win to retain the championship.

All three performers left it all on the line at Double or Nothing in one of the most entertaining matches of 2021.  As each competitor tried to outmaneuver the other, the odds of Omega retaining became slim to none.  Still, Omega persevered.  After a grueling triple-threat bout, Kenny Omega overcame the odds to retain the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

6. Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley Dynamite 2021

Finally, after several months in the tag team division, Kenny Omega was yearning for an opportunity at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.  However, it was not going to be an easy task going toe-to-toe with Jon Moxley.  Moxley was at the peak of his career, so Omega knew that extreme measures were needed in this one.

Everyone expected a heel turn from at least one of the competitors.  To the surprise of many, it was Omega who turned heel towards the end of the match.  After five consecutive One Winged Angels, Omega became the new AEW World Heavyweight Champion.

The heel turn came into effect after the match when Omega ran out of the arena with Don Callis, who at the time was in charge of Impact Wrestling.  Omega instantly drew heat at that moment after being cheered by the fans throughout the match.  It takes real talent to be able to manipulate a crowd from cheering to booing in a matter of minutes.  Kenny Omega did just that.  Considering his storytelling leading to the epic heel turn, this is some of Kenny Omega’s best work.

5. Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley Full Gear 2019

Two years before their championship match, Omega and Moxley battled in a Lights Out No Disqualification match at Full Gear in 2019.  This match heavily favored Jon Moxley due to his hardcore nature.

For several years, people have been waiting to see these two top-tier performers face each other, and the opportunity came when AEW first launched.  Personalities like Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley were destined to collide, being the two top wrestlers in the company.

Omega was determined to establish himself as the face of the company.  Of course, Moxley was looking to spoil those plans as his hostility towards Omega grew week after week.  As if everyone wasn’t already buzzing about this match, the storytelling told by Omega and Moxley amped it up even more.

Weapons became a factor in this match early, with both competitors taking advantage.  Bearing in mind Omega is not used to hardcore matches, this match brought out a whole different side to him as he had no problem utilizing the weapons to batter Moxley.  Everyone was on their feet for this brutal fight.  Though Omega lost the match, he once again innovated himself by showing his extreme side.

In one of the best technical bouts in AEW, Kenny Omega and Pac did not disappoint.  Pac was making a name for himself in AEW.  With a solid heel character and amazing wrestling skills, Pac was the perfect opponent for Omega, given his strong technical wrestling style.

In a rivalry that doesn’t get enough credit, Pac and Omega sold the story perfectly.  Omega was over instantly, with Pac’s tough guy persona attracting heat from the crowd.  Pac is very underrated as a heel and should be given more credit for his role in this feud.  This feud brought out some of Pac and Omega’s best storytelling.

Agility was the theme in this one.  Being two of the quickest athletes in wrestling made for a fun-filled battle.  Nonstop action lingered throughout the entire match, with fans on their feet, witnessing greatness before them.  While Omega gave a valiant effort, Pac emerged victorious.  For aspiring wrestlers looking to be technically sound, this is the match to learn from.

Going from tag team champions to bitter rivals in a year’s time, leading to the final pay-per-view of 2021, was unexpected for Kenny Omega and Hangman Page.  Hangman Page was ready for another exciting bout with Kenny Omega for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.  Page was the odds-on favorite to strip the title from Omega.

True AEW fans were mesmerized that this rivalry was finally taking place.  If there were ever two competitors that deserved this iconic moment, it was Omega and Page.  Being two of the best storytellers in the business fared well for them as they put this feud more over than it already was.

Their history was brought out in the promo battle.  Omega basically stated that Page was not on his level, which motivated Page to achieve the ultimate goal in professional wrestling: become the World Heavyweight Champion.  Some of Omega’s best promo work comes from his feud with Page.

Another solid technical match took place between Omega and Page.  With great intensity in the air, everyone knew these two would beat the living daylights out of each other.  Despite all the injuries plaguing Omega, he pushed through to put on another five-star match.  Page achieved his goal of becoming AEW World Heavyweight Champion which allowed Omega to take some much-needed time off to heal from several injuries.

Never say never to what seems like impossible dream matches.  Bryan Danielson is a true warrior of this industry, as he was told a few years ago that he would never wrestle again due to a gruesome injury.  Still, Danielson defied the odds.  When he returned to WWE in 2018, it was a wholesome moment.  Everyone thought Danielson would remain in WWE for the rest of his career, but they were highly mistaken.  Even after Danielson left WWE, nobody expected him to sign with AEW.

After Kenny Omega defeated Christian Cage at All Out in 2021, everyone could sense something special in the air.  As if Adam Cole’s AEW debut wasn’t already mind-blowing, here comes Bryan Danielson.  The feud that everyone thought would never exist happened instantly that night between Omega and Danielson as tensions were already rising.

In the weeks leading up to the match, Danielson was determined to beat Omega to prove himself as the better wrestler.  At this point, supremacy was the story told by Omega and Danielson.  Titles were not necessary in this one.  With this one being a non-title match, the story told by Omega and Danielson had everyone feening for a once-in-a-lifetime match.

Both competitors leveled up by facing one another in this historic match.  Omega and Danielson put on one of the best technical bouts in wrestling today, so it was only fitting for this five-star match to end in a draw.  It was a dream match to remember.  Hopefully, we will see Omega face Danielson again very soon as they elevate each other to perform their very best.

A new era was brewing in the wrestling business as AEW was about to shake things up.  At the very first official AEW pay-per-view Double or Nothing in 2019, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho had the honor of battling for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.  No other wrestlers were more deserving of this than Omega and Jericho.  The two Winnipeg greats were about to steal the show.

Omega and Jericho are two of the best talkers in AEW.  When Jericho interrupted Omega at the ticket announcement party, history was in the making.  The storytelling itself made for an intense feud.

Experience and stardom made for a five-star match.  The crowd was electric as Omega and Jericho beat the daylights out of each other.  Knowing what was at stake, Omega and Jericho battled each other hard, and it could have gone either way.  Chris Jericho won the match to become the first-ever AEW World Heavyweight Championship.  Despite losing in a hard-fought battle, Kenny Omega still gave a phenomenal performance that will be remembered for decades to come.
