It’s clobberin’ time!

After seven long years, CM Punk is back in the ring but that’s not even the biggest story of the night— not even close.

The year might not be over but it’s safe to say All Out will wind up being the most eventful wrestling pay-per-view event of 2021.

Other than Punk’s return, Kenny Omega defended his AEW Championship against Christian cage;  The Lucha Bros. beat the Young Bucks for the tag team titles in a steel cage; MJF nearly forced Chris Jericho into retirement and Ruby Soho won the Women’s Battle Royale in her AEW debut!

Oh, and let’s not forget that former NXT Champion and leader of the Undisputed Era Adam Cole along with Bryan Danielson also made an appearance! That’s right Bay Bay— AEW All Out was chock-full of great moments.

Here are the 20 best moments of AEW All Out 2021!

18. Paul White Cleans House

It was his first match with AEW, but Paul White didn’t miss a beat and did exactly what he had to do. This was essentially a palate cleanser, strategically placed between the CM Punk and Darby Allin match and the main event. It was quick and simple, and fans got to see exactly what they wanted to see which is watch the giant beat-up QT Marshall and his lackeys.

17. Darby Allin Delivers Another Killer Video Package

Darby Allin is known for delivering some of the most creative video packages in all professional wrestling and tonight he and his creative team gave fans one more killer promo before his big match with CM Punk. I really love the Earl Nightingale quote to open the spot as well as the music to accompany the visuals.

16. Lucha Bros. Make a Spectacular Entrance!

We’ve been waiting a long time for the Lucha Bros. to win the Tag Team Championship belts so watching the spectacular entrance was just icing on the cake. With Penta and Fenix touting themselves as “Mexican Kings,” it was obvious they would pull of the win and walk away as the new tag-team champions. 15. Orange Cassidy Shows Rare Emotion

Orange Cassidy isn’t exactly known as a man of words, nor does he ever show any real emotion. In fact, he barely ever talks, so watching him get extremely animated while willing Kris Statlander to get back in the ring, was truly unexpected.

Match: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (with Jamie Hayter and Rebel) vs. Kris Statlander (with Orange Cassidy).

14. Jungle Boy flying high!

AEW All Out’s preshow saw The Best Friends team up with Jurassic Express to take on Hardy Family Office and The Hybrid 2. There were plenty of highlights in this match but the biggest highlight was when Luchasaurus lifted Jungle Boy over his shoulders and the two men had a comedic game of chicken with Jack Evans and Angelico before Jungle Boy caught Angelico in the Snare Trap and forced him to submit to get the win.

Match: Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor, and Wheeler Yuta) and Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) (with Marko Stunt) vs. Hardy Family Office (Matt Hardy, Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) and The Hybrid 2 (Angélico and Jack Evans).

13. Britt Baker Gets the Win!

The AEW Women’s Championship match between Britt Baker and Kris Statlander was a strong match that exceeded my expectations. The highlight, however, was watching Baker perform the Panama Sunrise— -the signature move of her husband Adam Cole— before applying the Lockjaw and forcing Statlander to tap out.

Match: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (with Jamie Hayter and Rebel) vs. Kris Statlander (with Orange Cassidy).

12. Bryce Remsburg Turns Heel

The TNT Championship kicked off the main show, and boy did this match exceeded my expectations! Unsurprisingly, the crowd desperately wanted Eddie Kingston to defeat Miro but unfortunately for Eddie, referee Bryce Remsburg took too long to notice Kingston had Miro pinned in what should have been a three-count. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Remsburg messed up a second time when he stopped Eddie from slamming Miro into the exposed turnbuckle, distracting the challenger and giving the champ just enough time to steal the victory and retain the TNT championship.

11. CM Punk vs. Darby Allin

Many fans were somewhat worried about this match since CM Punk hadn’t wrestled in seven years and were afraid, he might be rusty. But if you were one of those fans, it didn’t take long for you to realize there was nothing to worry about. For the most part, CM Punk looked fantastic as he and Darby orchestrated an intense match that featured plenty of great spots including Allin diving out of the ring several times including once via a senton off the top rope. A Code Red and a crossbody counter nearly got Allin the win, but Punk was able to counter and kick out before hitting his GTS which sent Darby out of the ring and on the floor. The closing minutes were particularly great as both men pulled off plenty of counters before the 42-year-old Chicago native hit his finisher clean and won his first match in seven long years!

10. The Y2J Swerve

Chris Jericho’s career-threatening match began with a countdown clock akin to Jericho’s famous WWE Y2K debut— only when the timer reached zero, the screen read “Jericho’s Last Match” as MJF made his entrance instead. MJF is so good at being unlikeable, and this was just another example of why he is such a great heel. Not only was it a clever callback to Jericho’s prime but it was also a great swerve and a brilliant way to get more heat from the crowd.

9. Ruby Soho is the Joker!

I’m not a big fan of the Casino Battle Royale format but with rumors circulating all month that Ruby Riot would make her appearance at All Out, I was looking forward to this match since I was pretty sure she would enter last as the joker— and sure enough, she did!  

While it wasn’t a big surprise, it was still the perfect entrance as she walked out with a huge smile on her face before turning around to show off her jacket that read “Destination AEW Soho.” Yes, folks, the rebel with a cause is officially All Elite! She’s now going by the name of Ruby Soho, and beyond the name, she is also allowed to use the popular song from Rancid as her entrance theme, all of which is amazing!

Match: Nyla Rose vs. Thunder Rosa vs. The Bunny vs. Big Swole vs. Tay Conti vs. Diamante vs. Penelope Ford vs. Red Velvet vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Emi Sakura vs. Jade Cargill vs. Kiera Hogan vs. Abadon vs. Leyla Hirsch vs. KiLynn King vs. Rebel vs. Jamie Hayter vs. Anna Jay vs. Riho vs. Skye Blue vs. Ruby Soho.

8. Minoru Suzuki Makes a Surprise Appearance!

After Jon Moxley defeated Satoshi Kojima, legendary Japanese wrestler Minoru Suzuki made a surprise appearance as he walked to the ring, slowly removed his jacket, and then traded back and forth blows with Moxley. The New Japan star eventually put Moxley in a sleeper hold and then gave him the Gotch Style Piledrives as the crowd repeatedly chanted, “Holy shit!” It was the first of many surprise appearances, and perhaps the least expected.

Match: Jon Moxley vs. Satoshi Kojima.

7. The Canadian Destroyer from Top!

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a steel cage match between The Lucha Brothers and The Young Bucks featured so much spectacular action, that it’s pointless to even attempt to keep track of it all. The match was insane, to say the least, but amidst all the non-stop high-flying action, it was a Canadian Destroyer from the top rope that stood out most. Not only was it a scary and devastating spot, but it helped the two tag teams transition to a Buster-Keaton-like dance as all four men found themselves caught in a four-way exchange of repeated slaps and superkicks.

6. One-Winged Angel from the Top Rope

Even though it was obvious Christian Cage wouldn’t defeat Kenny Omega, I don’t think anyone expected this match to be as good as it was. In fact, when thinking back on the pay-per-view event, this might be the best match of the night— and not just because of the two big surprises that came after— but because it was a well-paced, well-choreographed dance between two living legends who delivered a blend of old and new school wrestling to please fans of any age. After several table spots, counters, and finishers, Kenny Omega pinned Christian with a One-Winged Angel off the top rope to retain his AEW Championship. And I can’t think of a better way to end the match.

5. A Leap from the Top of the Cage!

Earlier, I mentioned that the biggest highlight in the tag team championship match was a Canadian Destroyer from the top rope. Well, I sort of lied since the best moment came at the very end when Rey Fenix climbed the massive steel cage and hit a crossbody from the top of the cage onto Matt and Nick Jackson to steal the win!

4. Lucha Bros. Are Tag Team Champions

For fans of Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix, it was a truly special moment to see both men finally win gold! They’ve been two of the best wrestlers in AEW ever since the company launched three years ago and they more than earned the belts. It was especially emotional to see them reunite with their family before heading backstage with the tag team belts hoisted over their shoulders.

3. MJF Almost Steals A Win

Another match that exceeded my expectations was the fight between MJF and Chris Jericho— and what made this match especially stressful to watch, was knowing that if Jericho loses, he would never wrestle in AEW again. That’s why when referee Aubrey Edwards counted to three after MJF hit Jericho with a Judas Effect for a pin, I almost cried thinking it was a botch since Jericho had his foot on the ropes. MJF was declared the winner, his theme song played, and I sat there in utter shock thinking we would never see Jericho wrestle again in the squared circle. Thankfully, another ref came to save the day, informing Edwards that Jericho’s foot was indeed on the ropes, and she would need to restart the match. After several near-falls, Jericho went for the Walls of Jericho and beat MJF with his signature hold!

2. Adam Cole is All-Elite

Adam Cole is All-Elite Bay Bay! Yes folks, as the PPV was coming to a close and Kenny Omega defeated Christian Cage, the lights went out, and out walked Adam Cole wearing an “All Elite BayBay” t-shirt. Cole got a big pop as he entered the ring and did his usual shtick before making it clear he wasn’t there to fight The Elite but would rather join his best friends and become a member of the faction.

1. Bryan Danielson is All-Elite

Sunday night’s All Out pay-per-view concluded with perhaps the biggest new addition to the AEW roster being revealed. Of course, I am referring to Bryan Danielson (formerly known as Daniel Bryan in WWE) who departed WWE when his contract with the company expired earlier this year. Since then, rumours have circulated that he would come to AEW, and well that moment finally came during a post-match angle in which he rescued Christian Cage and The Jurassic Express from a beatdown at the hands of The Elite. During the closing stages of All Out, he also hit his signature running knee on Nick Jackson, before giving Christian a big hug. The show ended with Bryan and the babyfaces celebrating in the ring, and the crowd chanting “AE-Dub!”

“There’s some people around here who call themselves Elite,” Danielson said. “I’m going to be here to see if they truly are.” The fired-up Danielson finished up his promo by saying, “So AEW, let’s f—ing go!”
