Isabella Strahan Shares Insight Into Her Path To Recovery Through An Uncommon Update Following Her Fight With Brain Cancer
Life After Recovery
Isabella Strahan managed to get through it.
Over a year after she declared that she was cancer-free, the 20-year-old daughter of ex-NFL player Michael Strahan and Jean Muggli is sharing a glowing account of her journey and the life she has created post-battle.
On Sept. 12, in a TikTok video, Isabella documented a very honest and raw view of her recovery- the hospital stays, the very first steps she took after losing her mobility, shaving her head (the emotional moment), and now her smiling face in the Kenneth Cole fashion campaign, a beautiful nature walk by the beach, and even a run (which was not possible due to her illness) going.

“Living the Life I Fought For”
After blending her TikTok montage with the song by H.E.R “The Journey” that has the words “Going through hell, but still / you’re gonna make it through / It’s the fire that they can’t put out inside”, Isabella also instilled the same fighting vibe into her Instagram post by putting a blazing kick-off point: “My life, the one I fought for, the one I live.”
Isabella from the University of Southern California has shared her progress several times after her first announcement in July 2024 that she is cancer-free. Her recovery journey was quite eventful as she had six weeks of radiation, four rounds of chemotherapy, and three brain surgeries for medulloblastoma — a malignant brain tumor that is most common in children.
Isabella is now saying that she is turning the difficult path through the crisis as a source of energy to her embrace and live life to the fullest.
Choosing Courage Over Fear
“Sure you don’t know what will happen in the future, and that is a bit scary,” Isabella said to People in January. “But I do not think that you can only exist in fear. I should probably live each day. Use every opportunity.”
She also mentioned that her sharing process has changed her perspective. “I recognize the effect I can have by revealing the experience that I went through. The disease I got, it’s only a part of life, but it doesn’t tell who I am. The reason I want to be the voice is.”

Isabella’s Cancer Journey: From Diagnosis to Today
Brain Cancer Diagnosis
Isabella Strahan — the daughter of former NFL star Michael Strahan and Jean Muggli — disclosed that she “didn’t sense that something was wrong” with her health, until very early October 2023 when she got the symptoms of the headache and nausea that would not go away.
Her symptoms got worse to the extent that she vomited blood. Her father then took control of the situation, insisting that she should undergo a full checkup along with an MRI. The scan indicated medulloblastoma which is a malignant brain tumor that is the most frequent cause of which is children.
After that, she is out of the tumor through brain surgery.
Family Support
Isabella made her condition known to the public in January 2024 during a tearful interview with her father, Michael Strahan, and ABC News’ Robin Roberts.
“Really I think that you know I do have a superb daughter and through that I am the luckiest man in the world in many ways,” said Michael. “I am quite sure that she is going through a hard time, but I also believe that God never gives us more than we can manage and that she will come out of this. “Her sister, Sophia Strahan, also confirmed the love and pride she felt. “I have the most amazing sister the world, the best friend, and me, the luckiest,” Sophia commented on Instagram. “The past few months have been so tough for us, but I never would have guessed and it’s been a shock to me to see how strong you are.”

Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy was the last of her treatments, which she finished after she decided to share her diagnosis with the public. ”I really am looking forward to the end of this,” she said in a YouTube video from January 2024. ”It’s really been quite a long six weeks and I’m really happy that it’s finally my turn to recover from the side effects caused by the treatment and that everything will be alright soon.”
First Chemotherapy Round
After undergoing radiation therapy, Isabella has her first chemotherapy round.
In a February 2024 vlog she said, “It might sound weird but I feel like my entire mouth has been put through one massive root canal. Every single tooth, only extracted and not even put back in with surgery. My jaw hurts, the bottom of my tongue hurts. It hurts when I swallow water.”
Though she was going through a lot, Isabella still kept her positive attitude. In a video she shared the next week, she made a funny statement about the loss of her hair. “My hair is less than there is now,” she said smiling, and then added, “Apart from being bald, it doesn’t give me any.”

Emergency Skull Surgery
In fact, Isabella’s second chemotherapy treatment was planned to take place in the beginning of March 2024. However, due to some unexpected difficulties, she had to be taken to the operating room for a skull surgery as an emergency. In order to relieve her brain from the pressure, doctors removed a section of bone and installed a titanium plate, which they said postponed her chemotherapy for a few weeks.
“I am so miserable,” she said during a vlog after the operation. “My face is really swollen, and this is terrible. I was in such a lot of pain earlier. I was, like, screaming.”
Special Visit
During her very tough illness in March 2024, Isabella’s father, Michael, secretly brought Bryson Tiller, her beloved singer, to the house in NYC to give her a moment of joy amidst the chaos of the hospital.
“In the last few months, you haven’t reacted like this one!” He said as he filmed her, laughing with Isabella’s radiant face. “You are totally fangirling right now.”

Chemotherapy Round 2
Isabella’s second round of chemotherapy was scheduled for March 2024 after she had a successful recovery from her emergency skull surgery.
In her video update, she also mentioned her fight spirit, that it’s “only four more” sessions that she had to complete.
New Side Effects
Isabella in her second chemotherapy session which took place in March 2024 started experiencing new symptoms.
“I literally don’t know how to walk and at the same time I become dizzy and short of breath,” was her confession in a vlog, where she also said in a tone of vexation that it is not “anti-exhaustion medicine” that is available to her to help her get through the treatment.”

Good News
Isabella had some good news after her second chemotherapy session. She was informed that the total number of treatments had been reduced from four to two.
“These are tears of joy,” she stated in a clip published in April 2024. “It’s not that I can’t cry, it’s just that I don’t usually cry when it’s happy tears.”
Roadblock in Her Journey
In her journey, Isabella was met with a barrier again in April 2024 when she had her third craniotomy. As she explained, the operation was totally different from the ones she had previously suffered.
In her vlog, she emotionally admitted, “I’m not going to lie, tears have been coming quite a lot from me. They punctured the needle in three places and took out some fluid, and I had to be fully awake for this. Hence, my first surgery done completely under the local anaesthetic.”

Third Time’s the Charm?
Definitely not. Isabella revealed during her third round chemotherapy in May 2024 that her appetite had completely gone.
“Last week, the drop was like going to zero,” she explained in her video update. “So, it is annoying.”
She also confessed that she was experiencing memory loss but still tried to look at the bright side. “The day after tomorrow is going to be my last chemo day,” Isabella said with optimism. “And then it’s my last cycle, and then I’m done. It’s so unbelievable.”
A Crowning Achievement
Isabella marked the end of her chemotherapy with a celebration worthy of the milestone — crown included.
“Just finished chemo,” she declared in a June 2024 TikTok video, pairing the moment with the triumphant caption: “Did it.” She capped off treatment with a confetti parade and the ceremonial ringing of the bell — a ritual for patients completing cancer therapy — giving the University of Southern California student the rare gift of a summer break before heading back to campus.

Moving Forward
“I am so relieved because I thought I was going to be finished only at the end of July,” Isabella said with great relief. “I was supposed to do six rounds in total. And then I really would have to go straight back to school. I am so happy.”
She shared that she had her chemo port removed in July. Even though the place was still a bit tender, Isabella explained that the healing process was manageable. “The recovery for this is four weeks where you don’t go in water and so on, just being a little bit more careful and taking care of the scar. So it was not too bad.”
Officially Cancer-Free
Isabella celebrated the news that everyone was waiting for: a “great, great scan.” She said in a video on YouTube in July 2024, with a smile, that “everything was clear. Cancer-free. And everything is great.”
Even though she was relieved, Isabella thought about the negative side of finishing this story, “I already miss my doctors and everyone who has helped because they are all so nice,” she confessed. “Today I feel a little bit sad because I didn’t have to see them for a while and yet I love them so much.”

Happiest Place on Earth
Isabella, who has her cancer fight out of the way, went Disney all the way, and how she celebrated was typical of Disney style. In October 2024, she combined forces with her Super Bowl–winning dad, Michael, and twin sister, Sophia, for an early celebration of their joint 20th birthday at Disneyland — the happiest place on Earth.
The month of the milestone also offered Isabella a chance to remember. She put up an Instagram Story hospital-bed shot of herself in cap, gown, and mask, with the caption: “365 days since my life changed tremendously.”
In another photo, filled with balloons and flowers, she wrote: “Thankful for the progress I’ve made.”

“The Life I Fought For”
In September 2024, Isabella reflected on her cancer journey by sharing a heartfelt TikTok video that traces her cancer ride. The clips were just snapshots of her hospital bed stay, a new walking training, and the difficult occasion when her head was shaved.
Nevertheless, the latter part of the content fed a completely different view — Isabella smiling at her Kenneth Cole commercial, walking by the sea, and running, something that she wasn’t able to do during her illness.
The emotional assembly of scenes was accompanied by H.E.R.’s song “The Journey,” which lends a powerful refrain to the video: “Going through hell, but still, you’re gonna make it through. It’s the fire that they can’t put out inside.”
Moreover, Isabella’s caption really did sum up everything: “Living the life I fought for.”
