Delia Smith’s Husband Michael Wynn Jones Dies Aged 85
Chef Delia Smith has lost her beloved husband, Michael Wynn Jones, and is very unhappy about the passing of her partner, who was 85 years old. The late chairman of the former Norwich City majority shareholder had peacefully passed away at his home, accompanied by his family, on a Monday morning.
The couple became one of the most famous partnerships in English football after Michael and Delia jointly led the takeover of Norwich City in the late 1990s. Interestingly, their cooperation was not limited to business. Through its official press release, the club shared details of Michael’s sad passing: “We at Norwich City have lost our dear Michael Wynn Jones. Michael is our Honorary Life President, and he has just passed away.”

Michael passed away peacefully at home on the Monday morning at the age of 85. No doubt, he will be missed greatly. Michael’s family would like to express their appreciation to the community nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospice for their fabulous care.

According to the Daily Star, Michael and Delia were first introduced to Norwich in 1996 after a call from Geoffrey Watling, who then held a majority stake and wanted the supporters to be involved during a financial crisis period for the team.
The company changed hands after two years when Michael and Delia obtained the majority interest. This event started their long-lasting association with the team up to the present time.

Michael was, on the surface, not as frequently associated with Delia, but when considering the inner workings of the family business, he definitely was the more important figure. Together, the duo were able to achieve five promotions, survive through financial difficulties, and invest millions into the club.
In 2024, they decided to part company with majority owners and handed over running the club to Mark Attanasio’s Norfolk FB Holdings group. For their remarkable contribution and years of service, the couple were bestowed the title of honorary life presidents.
Michael, on the other hand, had been involved with many other things apart from football. All his life, he supported a football club named Norwich passionately, and apart from that, he also had a prominent career in journalism and editing; he wrote for newspapers like the Daily Mirror, and he also had his own publishing house, i.e., New Crane Publishing, before joining a well-known weekly magazine called The Spectator.

They and Delia continued to be very close to the city of Norwich, maintaining friendships in the local community and supporting various activities, even as they no longer had a hands-on role in the club.
