One of Melissa’s supporters pointed out to the Dancing With the Stars champion that “some people would have us believe that they have never done anything wrong,” and shared their own story: “I also repeated the same mistake more than two years ago due to a perfect storm of bad life events. I’m not making any excuses, but it happened. Never forget that you are beautiful, loved and blessed.”

Lawyer stresses presumption of innocence

On the 2nd of October in an interview with People, Bret Martin, the lawyer of Rycroft, emphasized to the public that one of the most important principles in the legal system is the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. He further said that the society has “very far gone from this fundamental concept,” referring to the fact that the police arrested his client on a charge of driving under the influence, and that “being arrested is no sign of guilt.” Martin appealed for thoroughness in the investigation – including examining police conduct, drug tests, and context before making any judgments.
