The WWE and Universal Championships Should Separate

As the old saying goes, sometimes two is better than one. The current state of the WWE and Universal Championships clearly proves that.

Since Roman Reigns unified the WWE and Universal Championships at WrestleMania 38, he has reigned supreme in WWE.  The Tribal Chief has successfully carried the company on his shoulders.  However, the championship unification doesn’t give as many superstars the opportunity to shine at the top of the company.  It is time for the WWE and Universal Championships to separate for multiple reasons.

More Opportunities for Superstars

With the WWE and Universal Championships unified, not enough superstars are getting their shot at becoming champion.  Separating the championships would allow for more opportunities for superstars to become top champions in WWE.

Undoubtedly, Roman Reigns deserves to be champion as he carries the company well.  But, with WWE having the most stacked roster in history, superstars like AJ Styles, Drew McInytre, Bobby Lashley, Kofi Kingston, Shinsuke Nakamara, Finn Balor, Sheamus, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens have been solid champions and deserve multiple runs.  Other superstars who have never held a major championship like Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes, Omos, Gunther, LA Knight, and many others who deserve their shot as well.

Two top championships in WWE just makes more sense.  Many superstars are determined to become a top champion in WWE, and splitting the titles makes that goal more reachable.

Better Storylines

While the Bloodline storyline is one of the current best, there needs to be more that are just as entertaining.  Separating the championships would allow for that.  One positive outcome of unifying the championships is more focus around the U.S. and Intercontinental Championships.  The storylines surrounding those titles have improved.  Still, the best storylines are the ones involving the top championships, the WWE and Universal Championships.  The split of the titles would allow for more dream matches as well as intense feuds.  By giving more superstars opportunities with the championship separation, WWE would get a better reaction from existing fans and attract new ones.  It would be a win-win situation for creative and viewers.

Brand Competition

The competition between Raw and SmackDown has always been intriguing.  It motivates competitors from both brands to prove who is the best individually as well as the brand as a whole.  The women’s division is already doing a solid job at brand competition with Bianca Belair as Raw Women’s Champion and Charlotte Flair as SmackDown Women’s Champion.  It doesn’t get much better than that.

When the WWE and Universal Championships were split, the male superstars did an excellent job with brand competition.  Brand competition motivates all superstars to prove their supremacy, bringing out their best performance each time they step in the ring.
