The actress has explained that the famous fashion event is simply not her thing.
One of the reasons Jennifer Aniston didn’t go to the Met Gala red carpet though she was invited, she made it clear in a recent interview.
In a talking-to Glamour, recorded on Sept. 2, the Friends starlet indicated that the glam moment entails too much for her. “It overwhelms me,” Aniston acknowledged. “The getting ready, the putting on the dress. I’m more like a ‘jeans and flip-flops and a tank top’ girl.”
However, for Aniston, waiting for the yearly fashion ball could still be the epitome of celebs’ chic yet she is by far the one who prefers a relaxed look.

Why Big Events Make Jennifer Aniston Anxious
In a way, Jennifer Aniston loves the idea of getting all glammed up and looking her best, but the thought of attending the Met Gala feels more like a tough mental barrier than a nice evening.
The star of The Morning Show, talking to Glamour, said, “I love dressing up as well.” But for me, it’s a mental game of, ‘We get dressed up, put on a fancy dress, makeup, get your hair all nice, and then go sit in a big room with your peers.’ Everybody is there to cheer each other on and have some fun, but I become anxious.”
Her insecurity is not only limited to the world of fashion. Aniston disclosed that she even gets nervous when she has to speak in public, particularly after she has witnessed her words being distorted or taken out of context for so many years. Presently, she says that she is “hall‑monitoring” her public conduct.
Other Stars Who’ve Skipped the Met Gala
Jennifer Aniston didn’t make a solo decision to not be a part of the Met Gala’s legendary red steps. Although Zendaya has become one of the event’s most fashionable and expected stars, her fiancé Tom Holland prefers the spotlight to be only on her. “It’s not my time, it’s hers, and if we go together, it’s about us,” the actor told Men’s Health in January.
Ex-One Direction member Zayn Malik would also exclude himself from future galas. Zayn went to the event once in 2016 with then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid but made a U-turn and said in 2018 that the gala was not for him. “It is not an event that I would have attended,” Malik told GQ in 2018. “I would rather sit at home and do something productive than dress up in really expensive clothes and be photographed on a red carpet.”

Stars Who Prefer to Sit Out the Spotlight
As Malik bluntly said: “Doing the self-indulgent ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, is not my thing.”
The chance to be at the gala was rejected again by Jennifer Garner as well. In 2007, the actress made a single appearance at the event and gives the memory the night as both incredible and frightening. In 2023, she told Vogue, “I was at the Met ball precisely just one time. “I really found the experience quite intimidating so I haven’t returned.” However, she still gave the night the credit of “really majestic and special.”
