Alicia Silverstone is aiming to “do more old‑lady things” as she is going to be 50 years old.
Alicia Silverstone: Domestically embracing “old-lady things”
Alicia Silverstone shared that she is living a quieter, more home-centered life. “I want to do more old-lady things – read in my garden,” she said, referring to the fact that she has been craving that kind of simple life “since I was 20,” the 49-year-old A Merry Little Ex-Mas star told PEOPLE.
It is quite a heavy load that she has to balance, hence making it very important to find time for that. “I burn the candle so hard,” Silverstone confessed – she is a juggler of the Acorn TV series Irish Blood and movies Pretty Thing, Bugonia (now in theaters) and A Merry Little Ex-Mas (on Netflix Nov. 12).

Alicia Silverstone Nears 50 and Turns to a More Domestic Life
“I want to do more old‑lady things” — finding quiet time among non-stop work
Alicia Silverstone stated that she is in a “domestic life” phase and longs for simple things such as reading in the garden. “I want to do more old‑lady things — read in my garden,” the 49‑year‑old A Merry Little Ex‑Mas actress told PEOPLE, explaining that she has always wanted that “since I was 20… I am very domestic, I guess,” she added.
She is figuring out “what typical people do” and how much rest they take, and then mixing that with her own timetable. “I work so much, so wild, I’m always traveling. I’m a machine,” Silverstone confesses. Not long ago she was going directly from filming the intense Bugonia scenes with director Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone, and Jesse Plemons to auditioning actors and looking at scripts as a producer on Irish Blood — a pace that made her “torn between everything” and, therefore, a little less relaxing than she had anticipated.

Cherishing school mornings, dog walks and bar mitzvah plans while juggling acting and producing
Silverstone, who is raising son Bear with Jarecki, her ex-husband, says she is enjoying the quiet routines that keep her grounded: taking Bear to school, preparing his breakfast and lunch, and then walking her dog before going to work. “It is still busy, but it is not madness,” she says, although she laughs that it is “kind of mad” now because they are planning Bear’s bar mitzvah.
She could hardly catch a breath between her unbearably intense Bugonia scenes, going for auditions and doing producing work on Irish Blood, and yet Silverstone is intentionally making fewer domestic hours. Bugonia is in theaters now; A Merry Little Ex-Mas (starring Oliver Hudson, Pierson Fodé, Melissa Joan Hart, Jameela Jamil and more) will be available on Netflix starting Nov. 12; and Irish Blood, which was aired on Acorn TV in August, has been renewed for a second season.
