Bill Gates has reacted to new allegations released in the latest batch of U.S. Department of Justice documents concerning convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In an interview with Nine News on Wednesday, Gates explained that his dealings with Epstein were centred around philanthropic activities. “The emphasis was always, he knew a lot of very wealthy people and he was saying he could get them to donate money to global health,” Gates revealed.
The co-founder of Microsoft gave what the broadcaster called his “only Australian TV interview” while he was in the country for the Australian Open, which ran from Jan. 12 to Feb. 1 at Melbourne ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Park.

Bill Gates expressed regret over his association with Jeffrey Epstein and called the relationship “a dead end” with the benefit of hindsight.
“You know, looking back, that was a dead end and I was foolish to have spent time with him,” Gates said. “I am just one of many people who regret ever knowing him.”
When asked about the allegations in the newly released Justice Department files, Gates stated: “Clearly, Jeffrey sent an email to himself. That email was never delivered. The email is, you know, a lie.”
Gates went on to say: “I regret every minute I have been with him and I apologize that I did that.”
Besides, he completely refuted the claim of sexual misconduct on his part. “I was at the dinners only,” he said, “I never went to Epstein’s island, and I never met any women” he furthered that with time as more facts will emerge, it will be obvious that his association with Epstein “had nothing to do with that kind of behavior”.
The newly released documents reveal allegations involving several high-profile figures, including Gates, who met Epstein on a few occasions while discussing ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌philanthropy.

“TO add insult to injury you them implore me to please delete the emails mails regarding your std, your request that I provide you antibiotics that you can surreptitiously give to Melinda and the description of your penis,” the draft riddled with typos says.
In another part of the email, the writer refers to the recipient being “dismayed beyond comprehension” over Gates’ choice to “disregard our friendship developed over the last six years.” However, considering the context, it might be that Epstein is implying the recipient was disappointed at Gates’ reaction, and the email is a sophisticated comeback to him.
The draft is just one of the many Epstein-related files made public by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌morning.
