Shirley MacLaine, Age 91, Is Visibly Spotted Outside on a Rare Occasion in Malibu While She Enjoys a Leisurely Lunch with Friends
Shirley MacLaine takes a rare trip to Malibu to have lunch at a cafe
The Oscar winner keeps it trendy in navy with a wide-brimmed sun hat while having a bright cocktail
Shirley MacLaine, 91, was very laid-back and had a good time with friends at Kristy’s Village Cafe in Malibu. Her outfit was still fashionable and trendy – she had on a dark navy sweatshirt which was layered over a matching royal blue top and she was wearing loose black pants. For the sun protection, she had a wide-brimmed sun hat and large brown-gradient sunglasses on; her short hair was nicely framing her face as she was talking. MacLaine looked very happy to be there as she was drinking a bright orange cocktail which was served in a stemless martini glass, and it seemed that the glass had a chili-salt rim.

Shirley MacLaine Soaks Up Malibu Sun With Friends at Kristy’s Village Cafe
Shirley MacLaine, 91, made a rare appearance in public in Malibu, and seemed to be very comfortable and happy as she was talking and smiling with friends around a woven outdoor table while she was looking at the lively pre-Thanksgiving atmosphere. She combined a dark navy sweatshirt over a royal blue top, wide loose black pants, a wide-brimmed sun hat and large brown-gradient sunglasses — a very simple, but still somewhat glamorous Old Hollywood-like outfit.
MacLaine was enjoying a vibrant orange cocktail (in a stemless martini glass with what looked like a chili-salt rim) and was later photographed taking a bite from her sandwich while she was soaking up the sun. In October 2024, she shared with PEOPLE in an interview about her book The Wall of Life that she “does wonder about how long” her life will be, although she hasn’t thought much about what will happen after.”
Shirley MacLaine on the afterlife — “I’ve got to spend some time in heaven first”
In a rather funny manner, MacLaine answered the question of who she would like to be in her next life, by saying, “Oh, honey, I don’t know. I can’t do that. I’ve got to spend some time in heaven first.”
In addition to that, the artist with the Oscar in her collection, brought back to life the memory of the celebrity character Holly Golightly, which, according to her, was first offered to her in 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a movie she says she didn’t accept, thus, writing the story of her career in a different way.

MacLaine’s refusal of a role that later made her regret
“I didn’t want to be under the weight control that is the norm with those types of operations,”— she mentions that she also didn’t like the script, but now she slightly regrets passing
MacLaine in her writing explains that she refused the part of Holly Golightly saying that she “did not want to be under the weight control that is the norm with those types of operations in order to be able to wear all those outfits and do all those fittings,” and that she “did not think it was a very good script.” She mentions that she “does not really regret” the decision but in an interview with PEOPLE, she said that the film she wishes she had done was Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
