Kate Gosselin Expresses Feeling “Helpless” After Leaving the Hospital While She Continues to Get Better
Kate Gosselin Shares Overwhelming First Days Post-Surgery
Kate Gosselin employs a one-step-at-a-time strategy for her recuperation.
She underwent a three-hour leg surgery to repair a “life-altering” injury which was a result of the dog’s collision into her leg. Three days later, the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 is still at her place, controlling pain and planning the follow-up steps.
“Wish me luck, the next stage is starting,” Kate said in a TikTok video captured on Oct. 2, visibly tired but cheerful after her hospital discharge announcement. “It’s all coming to me now—discharge instructions, the whole list of meds, the appointments I have to make and what will happen at my next appointment and all that. It’s a lot.”
“I think it is a bit too much,” she replied.

First Night Home: “It’s All Sinking In”
Returning home for the first night alone, the TLC alum commented that she was happy to be “in my bed at home,” but emphasized that the healing process still reminded her of the high-risk pregnancy she had with the sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Collin, and Joel, who are now 21 years old.
“Just wanted to give you a quick update that my first night at home was brilliant and it’s all sinking in how helpless I am,” she wrote in a different TikTok. “It’s making me recall over—I don’t know—what—21 years ago, time, when I was on bed rest.”
How the Injury Happened
Kate, who is also the mother of the 24-year-old twins Mady and Cara with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, confessed, “I never thought I’d find myself here once again, but here we are.” She, however, gave a little more detail about the incident, sharing the uncomfortable moments with her boyfriend, Steve, as they were playing fetch with her dog, Meika.
“Her running towards me at the speed of light was what I saw,” Kate recalled in a third TikTok. “I seem to recall that I thought, ‘I have only one second to get out of the way.’ I tried to move but I guessed wrong and I went the opposite direction of her path with a wrong step and she hit the side of her body down on my leg with full force.”

Diagnosis and What’s Next
“The force that hit me is something that I can never forget,” Kate said. “It was not the sound of a broken bone that I heard, but a thud sound. I just stopped and got somewhat bent down.”
The hospital discovered that the tibial plateau of her leg was broken and she was told that an operation would be necessary. “Of course, my surgery will be one of the next parts that I will mention,” she said while apologizing for her ‘verbosity’ and assuring that more updates will come shortly.
