Arthur Jones, Super Bowl Champion and Former Ravens DL, Dies at 39
The football world is sad about a sudden and unexpected departure. Arthur Jones, a defensive line of the Baltimore Ravens from 2010 to 2013 that contributed to the team’s victory at Super Bowl XLVII, passed away on Oct. 3 at the age of 39.
His death was first notified by Syracuse University where he had a brilliant college career before being drafted by the Ravens. No information regarding the cause of death was provided.
“Arthur Jones was a great athlete and even better human being,” said Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack in his statement. “He was a great supporter of the Syracuse football program after his playing career, we were lucky. He influenced a large number of our student-athletes, and not only with his smile and uplifting message but also with his presence.”

Career After Baltimore and a Family of Champions
Jones was with the Ravens for four seasons, after which he moved to the Colts and played for them between 2014 and 2016. Then he played in Washington for a year and retired from the NFL in 2017.
Excellence in sports was part of the family tradition. The younger brother of Jon Jones, UFC heavyweight champion, is at the same time the brother of Chandler Jones, who won his own Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots in 2014.
Legacy Through His Son; Ravens Grieve
The energy of Arthur’s son, Arthur Jones IV, is going on as he is doing at Christian Brothers Academy making the defensive end position and not long ago got a scholarship offer from his father’s university, Syracuse, according to WIVT.
In the aftermath of the Jones death, Ravens GM Eric DeCosta stated that the club was “terribly saddened” by the loss.

Ravens GM Eric DeCosta Pays Tribute
“Arthur was a wonderful presence in the lives of all those he met,” Ravens GM Eric DeCosta said in a statement shared on X Oct. 3. “His large, luminous smile, contagious spirit and everlasting positive outlook on life made him not only a presence that uplifted others but also a presence that became constantly renewed for he pulled from the very same source when being around him.”
DeCosta described Jones as “gentle, polite and full of life,” and pointed out his love for family, teammates and friends, which was quite evident with Jones.
“On behalf of all of us, we extend our sincerest sympathies to the entire Jones family,” he concluded, “those that loved Arthur and all who knew him.”
