In 2021, Rodrigo got a recording contract with Geffen Records, which resulted in the release of the song “Drivers License,” which topped the charts throughout the world and contributed to Rodrigo’s rise to popularity. Growing up in the adjacent city of Temecula, she was an only child. In her left ear, Rodrigo was born with a hearing impairment. Even though her mother is of German and Irish descent, Rodrigo is of Filipino American descent. She has indicated that her great-grandfather on her father’s side left the Philippines when he was a teenager and that her family adheres to Filipino customs and food. The alternative rock bands No Doubt, Pearl Jam, the White Stripes, and Green Day were among the favorites of her parents while she was growing up. She listened to these bands throughout her childhood.

The musical theater program that was offered after school at Lisa J. Mails Elementary School in Murrieta was something that Rodrigo participated in when he was there. She began taking voice lessons with Jennifer Dustman when she was five years old, and she would go on to enter Rodrigo in several local singing contests. Her parents signed her up for these classes. Acting classes were something that her parents decided to enroll her in after receiving advice from Dustman. Around the age of nine, she started taking piano lessons. It was after listening to Taylor Swift’s country music that Rodrigo first got interested in creating songs. By the time he was 12 years old, he was already playing the guitar. Her first appearance on TV was in a commercial for Old Navy when she was a little kid.
