Later the same year, he released the same-titled album, The Soft Moon. Vasquez has passed away, but his impact and memory will live on.

Vasquez began playing the guitar when he was a youngster. He was motivated to establish his first punk band at the age of 15, and he was influenced by bands such as Fugazi and Bad Brains. Vasquez was born in Los Angeles to a Cuban immigrant mother and a Mexican father who was not a part of his upbringing.

The Soft Moon's Luis Vasquez has died

Following his time spent performing in a number of punk-rock bands throughout his teenage years, Vasquez established his solo project, The Soft Moon, in 2009. In 2010, he acquired a recording contract with the Brooklyn label Captured Tracks, which resulted in the release of his first song, titled Breath The Fire. In the same year, he released his first album under the project, which was named after himself.

Captured Tracks released two more albums, titled Zeros and Deeper, in the years 2012 and 2015, respectively, until Vasquez secured a recording contract with Sacred Bones and released the album Criminal in 2018.

Exister was the last full-length album that Vasquez published under the name The Soft Moon. It was released by Sacred Bones in the year 2022. When it was being released, he made the following statement: “The entire purpose of this record was to share every emotion that I feel.” There are no two identical songs. The concept revolves around the existence of a human being in the world and the accumulation of a wide range of feelings and experiences over one’s lifetime.
