Besides singing on top of the roof, he was getting people to discuss issues such as police brutality, racial inequality, and oppressed communities. Furthermore, his activism apart from music, among others, has largely made a huge impact.

Initially, it was his idea to provide mentorship to men of color, aged 18 and older, across the U.S., including Puerto Rico. The program will also be facilitating them with career guidance as far as their level of expertise is, to the point of confidence-building equipment. The goal is to empower these individuals to reach new heights and create opportunities where none existed before. On the ImpactMENtorship Program website, it’s clear that mentorship is seen as a powerful tool for change, with the belief that providing the right guidance can help people transform their futures.

It is his own experience of having had no formal mentor outside his immediate family that gives Joey the fire he has to help others who may not have the same support system. Joey’s private ambition has always been giving others chances, especially those who find themselves in places where the chances are few. He revealed the importance of his mission to offer the same thing he has never had, that is, a mentor capable to advise children farther than the scope of their parents and close circle.

The mentorship program Joey started both in music and the community shows his inherent passion to pay back the youth and providing them with the avenues to thrive. His tenacity to make the mentor program the backbone of his legacy is the true proof of his concern for the future generations, thus his attachment to the principles of the community and growth are the most prominent.
