Jason Momoa will officially return to DC as Lobo after saying ‘he always was my favorite’

Transitions From Aquaman to Lobo

With James Gunn and Peter Safran taking the charge, Jason Momoa gets to abandon his actor of being Aquaman, a character in the DC Universe, and somewhat take on a new character as Lobo in the revamped DC Universe direction. Lobo is a galaxies bounty hunter in the DC Comics world, a part that will now be played by Momoa, transitioning from the wet superhero portrayal that he once had. This is a major transition for the actor as he is now losing the Aquaman persona, one which he relished as it allowed him to act a stern character, someone he has wanted to play for a long time, especially being a fan of the character.

Momoa appears to have a personal connection with Lobo as well. In a 2023 Fandango interview, the actor was quite enthusiastic about the role, explaining that Lobo had been one of his comic book heroes for a long time. “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite,” Momoa remarked. The actor vividly described the role as perfect, suggesting that there was considerable overlap between him and the character. So a special bond with Lobo helps Momoa stay motivated and focused on his portrayal of the bounty hunter.

At the same interview, Jason Momoa was thrilled at the thought of portraying Lobo, even before being cast. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f— yeah,” he said, showing his resolve to take the role. It was then that Momoa acknowledged that he had not yet received any official offers or auditions pertaining to the role, thus making Monday a proud day for the actor and fans as he received confirmation for the role he desired.

James Gunn’s Vision for the DCU

Momoa’s transition to Lobo is indicative of the shifts that are evident in the DCU with the fact that James Gunn and Peter Safran are the new heads in charge of the direction in which the franchise will take. Gunn has been appreciated for his unique sense of storytelling and his strong sense of character focus is on record, stating his willingness to go in different directions in the DC Universe, and making Momoa Lobo is a perfect fit.

With Momoa gradually revealing details about his interpretation of Lobo, the fans grow even more curious how the actor is going to embody the galactic antihero. People call Momoa as more than life and considering his big strong looking appearance, it really seems that he fits the role of a crude and stern bounty hunter perfectly. With this casting, the DCU appears to be on the verge of entering a new phase, intertwining the old with the new.

This is really a great moment for the fans, remembering that he has been to the DC Universe as a bounty hunter for a long time and still plays major roles and reprises his character the best. Of course, Jason Momoa will continue being Aquaman in the Supergirl film, and this film will cast Milly Alcock as Supergirl. In the light of the movie’s expected coverage, there will be a great deal of questions about Vegan Gorillaz who will be able to answer them all.

Craig Gillespie to Direct the Film

We already know that Supergirl is set to be directed by Craig Gillespie, considering the fact that he has worked on many big projects in the past, it is easy to see how he could really bring the character alive. With Craig on board it’s safe to say that this is not going to be the last DC property he’s attached to. Together with Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa, the films revolves around a new character, Krem of the Yellow Hill, who is a supervillain and has quite a strong backstory with the Supergirl character.

The new film will be based on the acclaimed comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The storyline follows the character Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl whose alien world is obliterated and her father is murdered, who demands retribution. To capture the culprits, she turns to Supergirl. While the synopsis keeps many aspects of the story under tight wraps, what can be seen in the trailers depicts an unwavering Supergirl alongside the great multi dimensional monster, Lobo in a series of war action that would not shy from Showcasing Supergirl’s determination.

The introduction of Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hill into the Supergirl storyline enhances the mix and guarantees that Supergirl has to deal with her personal and global issues. Besides her strong performance of Ruthye Marye Knoll, Eve Ridley will bring an emotional aspect to the story, which will help the viewers understand how loss can bring a broader journey of achieving justice. Given that Jason Momoa is now undertaking the role of Lobo, a contradictory character not following any pattern and a real rebel,  the film promises to deliver a compelling blend of high-octane action and complex character dynamics.

Welcoming Jason Momoa to the DCU

During his numerous tweets, Gunn mentioned welcoming Jason by posting an art piece representing Momoa and signing it as Lobo. As a matter of fact, Jason was welcomed into the DCU with a warm welcome on his Instagram Stories with the caption, ‘Welcome to the #DCU Jason Momoa.’ This announcement marks a significant moment for both the actor and the revamped DCU, as Momoa transitions from his long standing role as Aquaman to embodying the iconic intergalactic bounty hunter.

Lobo, voiced by the striking Jason Momoa perfectly and made him more lovable to fans, became known as “main man”. Because of its origins in Strange Adventures, the character had the chance to evolve through bold storytelling showcasing characters on the outside as bodybuilders, but on the inside, they are artists that have strong beliefs and visions to share . He has become pretty much cosmopolitan with an awesome black leather vest with sweet long hair and has an attitude to much more sporting events sidelining music. Lobo, in order to enhance his style achieves this through driving a artillery vehicle named space cycle and gives an aura of a head banger to his fans with a statement look.

With the finishing of his character’s series, Jason Momoa has officially parted ways with the character of Aquaman in 2023’s sequel and the Lost Kingdom. Following his portrayal of the superhero Arthur Curry in multiple films, such as Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and even his cameo in HBO’s Peacemaker season 1, it is no surprise that Jason took a different yet interesting approach to the character. What is interesting to note is that even though he has completed the cycle of playing Aquaman on the big screen, he seems more excited to play as the character of Lobo.

A Long-Awaited Dream Role

Jason Momoa has been very vocal about his desire to embody Lobo, even to the extent of calling it his dream role. His continuous enthusiasm for the figure has always been a talking point in his interviews, where he stated Lobo is truly one of the characters that he can see himself portrayed as. With the appearance of an innovative DCU guided by Gunn and Peter Safran, the day has finally come when the colossal performer can play this cosmic antihero. The timing of this is icing on the cake, as it perfectly coincides with the ongoing DCU’s switch to be more edgy and riskier in the storytelling part and the introduction of new characters.

Momoa’s debut as Lobo comes at an exciting time for the DCU, which officially kicked off its new chapter with Creature Commandos, an animated series, and will expand further with live-action releases like Superman: Legacy and Peacemaker season 2 in the coming years. This revamped universe aims to blend beloved DC staples with innovative narratives, and Lobo’s introduction is a testament to Gunn and Safran’s vision for a dynamic and diverse roster of characters. With Momoa’s magnetic presence and deep passion for the role, Lobo is set to make an unforgettable impact in the evolving DCU.
