DJ Mister Cee Date of Death

Cee, whose birth name was Calvin LeBrun, passed away on April 10 this year at the age of 57, according to a statement released by his employer, the radio station Hot 97.

It is with great sorrow that we, the family of HOT 97 and WBLS, share the news of the loss of our much-loved Mister Cee. As stated in the statement, “He was more than just a DJ.” His iconic shows on ‘Friday Night Live’ and ‘Throwback at Noon’ brought a great deal of happiness to a large number of listeners, and he was the backbone of our stations.

This was followed by the following: “Mr. Cee’s influence extended far beyond the airwaves, thereby shaping the very fabric of DJ culture in New York City.” We are sending our love and sympathies to his family as well as the fans whose lives he touched via his music. Our hearts are heavy as we are sending these messages. Mr. Cee, you may relax now. Your legacy will endure for all of eternity.

Known as “The Finisher,” Cee made the discovery of hip-hop icon The Notorious B.I.G. when his buddy DJ 50 Grand introduced him to Biggie. Biggie was famous for his contributions to the genre. The two of them worked together on a demo, and sooner or later, the Unsigned Hype section of The Source became aware of it. This, in turn, resulted in a meeting with Sean “Diddy” Combs.

“The plan was we were going to redo the basement demo that he and 50 Grand put together,” Cee told the television station WBLS 107.5. “Big was a very reserved person. It was a habit of his to speak with his head down and to say things like, “Yo man, don’t be promising me anything, man.” Do what you claim you’re going to do, it’s important to follow through. I’m thinking to myself, “No, we’re going to have to redo the demo.”
