Police Report Reveals That Anne Burrell Left Note Which Was – Dated the Morning She Died
According to the newly released police report, it is stated that chef and Food Network personality Anne Burrell left a note expressing her intent to die by suicide which was dated the morning of her death.
The New York Police Department confirmed to People that upon death of Burrell on June 17, 2025, an investigator located a note at the primary bedroom in Burrell’s Brooklyn residence. The report further states that the investigator also found several other journal entries with suicidal themes on a bed in the same room.
An NYPD spokesperson had told Page Six earlier that Burrell was discovered unconscious at around 7:50 a.m. When the emergency responders arrived, they pronounced her dead. She was 55 years old.
Sources told The Post that it was Stuart Claxton, her husband, who found her lifeless body at their home two days later.

According to sources, Anne Burrell was found unconscious with many pills lying around her. These sources were nevertheless careful to point out that it was very early in the investigation and the medication might not have been the reason for her death.
On June 20, 2025, the NYPD told Page Six that the star of the show Worst Cooks in America was being seen as a possible drug overdose case in the drug overdose. A month later, the death of Burrell was announced as a suicide.
The medical examiner’s office in New York City eventually determined the source of the death as “acute intoxication resulting from the combined use of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.”

According to the report, Anne Burrell died from acute intoxication due to the combination of diphenhydramine, cetirizine, ethanol, and amphetamine. Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are two of the most commonly used antihistamines, and ethanol is the alcohol component. Amphetamine is a stimulant medication that is typically prescribed for the treatment of ADHD.
Burrell seemed to be in a good mood and good shape in the last photo she shared on Instagram, which was five days before her death. Another Food Network personality Melba Wilson who knows Burrell also said that she was “healthy and vibrant” before her unexpected death and she “was fine” when talking to TMZ.
“It’s just so hard to believe that someone so full of life could be gone,” Wilson said. “To hear the news that she’s no longer with us is just devastating. It feels like a shock. It’s totally unbelieveable.”

Despite most people perceiving Anne Burrell as “healthy and vibrant”, a confidante of the late chef admitted to Page Six that she was aware the star “struggled”.
“I think she somehow struggled — I guess the moment she got on TV and was on her way to being a TV celebrity chef,” the friend recalled. “She was famous, she was attending the food and wine circuit events. She was busy — to some extent, I felt like she wasn’t really happy. People with big personalities sometimes cover up their true selves.”
Even though her TV persona was of a very strong character, the friend revealed that Burrell was battling with loneliness and had a terrified addiction side; she also added that the chef “came from a family with one alcoholic member”.
“Like all of us, she had her demons… She didn’t reveal those to me too much. [Being a TV star], there are so many high moments. In private, you will have the moment of a letdown.”
