Coronation Street Star Stephanie Cole Dies at 84 Following Battle With Alzheimer’s

Stephanie Cole Dies at 84 After Alzheimer’s Battle

Stephanie Cole died at the age of 84, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. The news of her demise came from her agent via a statement on Friday. It read, “We are very sad to inform you that OBE Stephanie Cole has passed away.” “She‍‌‍‍‌ leaves us at the age of 84 this morning,” Stephanie, who has been afflicted with Alzheimer’s for several years already, the announcement said.

In addition to the health issues, they also praised Cole for her work, stating that she is an “outstanding artist” and that her work in films, stage plays, and television was ‍‌‍‍‌unforgettable. It went on to say that the actress was a “great joy” when the public adored her characters in sitcoms and dramas and was very popular.

Remembering Stephanie Cole’s Philanthropy

It was only right for people to recall her work with mental health charities through her support of them. “The family is asking kindly not to be disturbed, considering this is an extremely tough time,” their agent’s statement said to conclude it all. On hearing of her death, people started writing messages on social media to show that they admired her as an artist. A person posted, “I’m really upset at Stephanie Cole’s death. She did a great job in Man Down and Corrie. May she rest in peace.” Another wrote, “It’s just so sad to find out that Stephanie Cole has passed away. She was brilliant and always was on TV in the 80s and 90s. A little national treasure, she was among the best British actresses of those times.” A fan also wrote that, “I received a terrible piece of news this afternoon: Stephanie Cole passed on, sad as can be… I remember her in Open All Hours; she played Roy’s mum, Sylvie, in Coronation Street. I loved her performance on Corrie. Rest in peace. “Someone else simply wrote to mourn: ‘Goodbye for good, Stephanie Cole.'”

Delphine Mrs. was frank when expressing her delight regarding Arkwright’s frugality and ended up as one of the major characters in the beloved sitcom. Open All Hours was her vehicle for receiving two BAFTA award nominations for acting, and in 1986, Blackadder II provided her with a last BAFTA for Best Comedy Performance. Mrs. Delphine has appeared on various TV programs in Britain since she retired as an actress; it is said that her “exhaustion from being criticized constantly” may have been the cause.

The Jonathan Ross show she was on was in 2005 and 2013, respectively, as well as I’m a Celebrity. Although she passed away on 5 September 2009 at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant, Wales, it was her daughter, Emma-Lu, who had been raising money via an online auction (which ran for only an hour) in September 2000. The fundraising event was for a new hospital wing that would house patients and their carers from all over Wales who are battling terminal illness or have chronic illnesses.

Stephanie Cole’s Beloved TV Roles

Between‍‌‍‍‌ 1982 and 1985, Stephanie was in 10 episodes of the original Open All ‍‌‍‍‌Hours. Her role as Mrs. Delphine Featherstone gained fans because of her clever remarks and her attitude toward men, which she wasn’t very fond of.

Mrs. Delphine’s one of the lines that stuck with people, in a good way: “Men. They require a firm hand, except where they prefer it, apparently.” That line, together with many others, made her character very popular.

Stephanie took on Delphine again in the sequel, Still Open All Hours. From 2013 to 2019, she acted in all 41 episodes, first appearing in the shop as she was one of the regular customers. Her character’s antics with the sales representative Granville continued.

Stephanie Talks About Ageism

If she could, Stephanie would definitely address the discrimination towards older actors. She talked with The Daily Telegraph in 2019, pointing out that she was getting acting advice from the BBC even though she was very experienced already. “Unluckily, there are still some people at the BBC who are quite traditional-minded,” she remarked. “They don’t listen to me; I am just a nobody. However, when David [Jason] ends one series, he does a bit of a struggle with the directors and executives, after which he receives the next part.” “He is the one who understands better than they do what is working.” Stephanae also spoke of her annoyance at receiving comedic timing guidelines, claiming that seasoned actors have a natural sense for joke delivery.
