Ricky Gervais Sends Love to The Office Co-Star Lucy Davis
Ricky Gervais said he has a lot of respect for Lucy Davis, his Office co-star. He even expressed his solidarity with the lady after finding out from Lucy Davis that the doctors have told her that her breast cancer cannot be cured. The veteran British performer, who turned 65, put a red heart in response to Lucy’s social media message, sharing some love with the star when she said that the cancer is terminal. Lucy Davis was a fellow cast member of Ricky’s while she acted as the receptionist, Dawn Tinsley, in the UK adaptation of The Office, which Ricky played. They played together in one Family Guy episode in 2012, a show that Lucy dubbed as the ex-wife of David’s character.
Ricky was one of the many co-stars, celebrities, and fans who, in Lucy sharing her terrible news, offered Lucy messages of love and support. Her partner, Jane Fallon, was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2026, despite having no symptoms, after a follow-up routine mammogram.
Lucy was flooded with kind thoughts when she disclosed, last Tuesday, that she’s been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and doesn’t know how long she has left. Following the news announcement through an Instagram post by Lucy, quite a few stars sent their own comforting comments too.
She Receives Support From Jenna Fischer and Friends
Among the replies was Jenna Fischer, who once acted in a different portrayal of Lucy’s character in The Office’s US adaptation, from 2005 to 2013. It was discovered that Jenna was suffering from Stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer the previous year, but it was removed before any of the rest of her body could have been infiltrated. She stated, “That’s a lovely post; love you tons. Working alongside cancer, yes! Let’s spread that message far and wide! ‘How working can really be a kind of healing!’ is such a relief for cancer patients that they find themselves working.
Another comment was made by actor, director, and producer Amanda Abbington, who is Lucy’s co-star Martin Freeman’s girlfriend, and they also worked on the British series Married Single Other in 2010, apart from Lucy and Jenna.
Amanda posted, “Sending you the biggest cuddle and all my love, love, love, love, love. You are and have always been an incredible f*****g woman. I adore you. What a pleasure getting the job done. Time flies by so swiftly, yet memories of our days at work together never really fade. When I remember those days, I smile and feel happy. I am really looking forward to talking about those happy moments with you and getting the chance to reminisce about them, even more. So, a truly beautiful f*****g woman, xxxxxxxxx.”
Stars Rally Around Davis After Cancer Diagnosis
Piers Morgan tweeted: ‘Lucy, this is such depressing news. I’m very sorry for you.’ ‘I see your strength in being so honest, which is a reflection of who you are. Give my best wishes to your relatives as well.’
Ulrika’s post: ‘A hard one to read, but the language is so poetic and well put. We are just wishing you so much love and laughter.’ At last, we’re merely showing each other the way to the end of life.”
Laura Aikman, a cast member who has appeared in Gavin and Stacey in the show, wrote: “Dear Lucy. You’re a really wise & funny person.” One has always looked up to you from a distance. I hope you’re being filled with love as it is coming to you in this hour. xxx’
On Tuesday Lucy announced that she suffered from cancer and that it spread to her ‘bones.’ In her Facebook post, Lucy explained that she was aware of a ‘very small, tight thing’ in her breast a year earlier and almost dismissed it, but she went to see a doctor. ‘Lucy the Wonder Woman has stated, even though there is no longer a treatment for the cancer, I’m ready to accept whatever comes next.’
Lucy announced her diagnosis together with a heartbreaking video she had made of a treatment bell being rung by her. She also expressed in her post that doctors told her to ‘skip’ the chemo.
She Opens Up About Stage Four Cancer
The star is best known for her role as Dawn Tinsley in Ricky Gervais’ comedy The Office and went on to star in the DC film Wonder Woman. She wrote, ‘Hi friends, I wanted to share something with you all that I’ve kept to myself for a while, but for various reasons would like to share it now. ‘A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, which has metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip, and ribs. The cancer is incurable and too late for chemo. The initial lump that I felt wasn’t a ‘lump’ as such, but rather a kind of hard spot. Really tiny. I almost didn’t bother getting it checked. So I guess I’m saying don’t ignore anything—get everything checked out. ‘As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there’s a lot I have learned from it, and I’m grateful for that.
Lucy Says Humor Helps Her Through Cancer
‘There are some days when the body refuses to cooperate; the pain can be so much more serious, so much so that you have absolutely no idea where the body begins and where the psyche ends, really. Standing, walking, and just being out for a long time becomes a chore for me, and I need to rely quite often on a wheelchair (so if it happens that I am pushing my wheelchair around, feel free to give me a little hand!)
‘Humour has become one of the most important assets in my life so far. I even got ahold of my most intimate friends and relatives to tell jokes and laugh at me (which they excel really well at), most importantly of all, not to see me as just merely a person with a sickness who is not in a healthy condition. ‘The worst feeling you can imagine is when people think you are sick when in reality, you are not at all sick.’ “I am not frightened by whatever I will be facing after today. Being peaceful is the most comfortable choice. My Gracie will be the one to receive me first, and for me, just leaving my body means simply returning home. The grief belongs to those who are left behind. The ones grieving should be the family, not the ones who are departing, as that’s what’s tougher for them.”
‘I am going to have to be quite a little animal rights activist still. The matter deeply affects me, and I am not a bit ready to stop working. I am fully able to do so, and acting is for sure one of the greatest pleasures in life to me. The thing I would ask you all to keep in your hearts is that I hope we will be well at the end of the road if we are undergoing the same journey as I did. In addition, cancer is a serious disease not only for your body but for your mind as well. And, finally, we are all entitled to make use of the way the journey is going.’
Lucy Davis’ Cancer Story Prompts Breast Cancer Support
Following her announcement, Breast Cancer Now’s Sally Kum released a statement, writing: ‘We’re very sorry to learn that Lucy Davis is battling with metastatic, incurable breast cancer, and we have Lucy, her family, and everyone close to her in our thoughts and send our support to them at this incredibly tough time.
‘Lucy’s sharing about her diagnosis will most certainly help many hundreds of people living with metastatic breast cancer in the UK. Although the progress in breast cancer treatment helps people live longer with the disease, the fact still remains that metastatic breast cancer is incurable, and it is the mission of Breast Cancer Now to transform this situation. The aim is that by 2050 the lives of all people diagnosed with breast cancer will be extended.
‘Lucy’s story is a very clear example of the importance of not slowing our momentum. We need to greatly increase efforts in research, develop more and, kindly, better treatments, and discover new ways of stopping the disease from progressing and ultimately taking more lives.
