Jodie Sweetin Talks About How Stamos Helps Her Sobriety in Her Memoir

Jodie Sweetin Reflects on Sobriety Bond With John Stamos

Jodie‍‌‍‍‌ Sweetin and John Stamos are still very close to each other, although they were not only separated geographically but also emotionally after Full House. They were on stage portraying their roles for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995. Sweetin told The Dory Jackson Interview, via a Facebook series, that John Stamos is still part of her sobriety journey support. The 44-year-old actress said that Stamos had helped her through the difficulties of sobriety even more individually. After a while, John Stamos gave her an award that recognized the work she had done. Sweetin said, “This is about the Experience, Strength, and Hope Awards that took place in 2019 when Jodie Sweetin was awarded a memoir named UnSweetined, where she was being very open about various stages of addiction and recovery and also what it ‍‌‍‍‌took.”

Jodie Sweetin Celebrates John Stamos’ Sobriety Milestones

“We have been together celebrating all those big moments, and we have been helping each other so much. I am very happy that I could show that attractive side rather than the promotional one. In my view and the views of experts, that is one of the main principles of recovery.” Sweetin interpreted the principle as being “Don’t beat people over the head. Be the result of your efforts, and if your presence is really worth a search, people will come to you eventually without the need to raise a ruckus.

Stamos did various roles of father- and uncle-like characters, such as Uncle Jesse Katsopolis in “Full House” and also in its successor series “Fuller House.” In “Fuller House,” which ran for five seasons from 2016 to 2020, it was Sweetin who took on the role of one of the ‘daughters’ in the program, specifically, the ‘daughter’ character Stephanie Tanner. The two-mom parent also told, for her YouTube interview with host Dory Jackson, the last time she had any alcohol.

Jodie Sweetin Reflects on Life 14 Years Into Sobriety

2011 was my last alcohol drink. It has been a huge journey: the 12-step work, the other programs, and therapy I had, besides just learning with age, changing perspectives, etc.—all of these things.
Sweetin said that this whole experience since 2011 is “extremely liberating.” Sweetin said, “Once you actually start liking that new person in yourself (a result of the changes), it becomes nearly impossible to go back to destructive behaviors and continue them.

You sort of go, ‘Oh, wait, hold on; I want to take care of this little person inside here and see what they’re capable of. ‘And I’ve been really fortunate to be able to do that.”
“For so long it felt that I and others would take drugs and alcohol to be completely disconnected or to not feel who we were, and that to find peace and say ‘I liked me,’ ‘I don’t need anything at all,’ and ‘I am good’ is totally liberating,” says Sweetin!
