Orlando Bloom Confesses That Losing 52 Pounds in a Short Period of Time Made Him Very Scared
Orlando Bloom Opens Up About ‘Horrible’ Effects of Rapid Weight Loss
The actor divulges that a very strict diet left him with no energy, paranoiac, and “horrible to be around.”
Orlando Bloom is sharing the hard part that he had to go through with his body when he lost weight rapidly for his role in The Cut, a boxing drama, which will be released soon.
In order to play a retired fighter who is training for a comeback, Bloom told that he lost 52 pounds by following a very strict diet consisting only of tuna and cucumber for the months leading up to the shoot. When he was on This Morning, the actor confessed that the change of his body had accompanying side effects that were quite scary.
“I was just exhausted,” he recalled. “I didn’t have a single bit of energy or thought power.”
Bloom, in addition to the physical difficulties, mentioned that the extreme dieting had a great impact on his personality and mental state. “Just mentally, physically, I was hangry,” he went on. “I was a horrible person to be around.”

Going to Extremes on the Diet Caused Paranoia and Mental Distress
At the age of 48, Orlando Bloom confessed that the tough regime had started to affect not only his body but also his mind. He said that his dietician, who is also the nutritionist of actor Christian Bale, progressively reduced his meals setting him off from three to just two meals a day.
“All of a sudden, those foods that I was used to eating were being taken away, and protein powder was the last one for me,” Bloom reminisced. “I was like, ‘Stop! Don’t take that one away.’”
As a result, Bloom said that by the end of his training, he was eating mostly tuna and cucumber and that he had only those two foods for the last three weeks before the shoot.
Orlando Bloom Reflects on the Toll and Relatability of Extreme Preparation
Bloom said his nutritionist was really involved in the health of the actor as they used to run blood tests regularly to keep track of the effects of the actor’s very strict diet.
Even with the full medical oversight, the actor confessed that the whole ordeal was a clear demonstration of how people set no boundaries to their own limits when they are in pursuit of their goals.
“The normal thing would be to eat, sleep and take care of ourselves,” he recalled. “It’s really a story that a person will do anything necessary to get that second chance. I think it is very relatable.”
The Lord of the Rings star remarked that although professional athletes are no strangers to weight cuts, actors however, “take it to the extreme” because of their very limited time to physically prepare for the hard part of the play.

Bloom Warns Against Copying His Extreme Routine
Orlando Bloom confessed that the negative aspects of his weight loss were felt to such an extent on the shoot he was so exhausted that he had to lie down in between the takes just to rest. “Then I would get up, do my push-ups … show a little bit more like I was,” he told.
The actor out of Heaven Kingdom emphasized that he absolutely would not give his “intense” diet as a “maybe” to anyone, especially if it was not for the shooting of a professional film.
In The Cut, which will be released on September 5, Bloom is a former boxer who is haunted by the memory of the past and gets back into the ring, an addiction that will cost him his family, his life, and everything else.

Katy Perry Was “Freaked Out” by Bloom’s Transformation
At the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Bloom told People that he had to film all his scenes at his lowest weight before he was allowed to put on any weight again. So different that even those closest to him could hardly recognize the change.
He went on to say that his ex-fiancée, Katy Perry, was so “freaked out” with his transformation that he had to explain to her what he was doing along the way. The two, who had been an item for almost ten years, announced their separation in July after been together for nine years.
