Katie Thurston Addresses Fake Death Rumors
Contrary to fake reports that were spread online, Katie Thurston is still here and keeps on fighting.
After disclosing that her breast cancer had progressed to stage 4 with metastasis in the liver five months ago, the former Bachelor Nation star made a tearful video to respond to the fake news announcing her death.
“I’ve been confronted with this article several times, but for some reason tonight it really f–king pissed me off,” Katie stated in her Sept. 26 Instagram Story video. “It was very upsetting. I tried to report it [but] there is no way for me to get out.”

From Helplessness to Humor
“I only feel totally helpless. I am so mad,” Katie confessed, stating that while she had been attempting to disengage with social media, she was notified about the hoax when she started getting concerned texts and DMs from people that she doesn’t usually communicate with. “[If] somebody who works at Facebook has any idea of what I can do, please let me know.”
However, the next day the 34-year-old turned her anger into humor – she was so funny that you couldn’t help but smile – she joked with a coffin company that she was “up here chilling with God.” The comedian Jeff Arcuri, whom she married in March, must be proud of her.”
Katie Thurston’s Ironic Response
Katie responded to the hateful gossip with irony in a short Instagram clip. She said, “It’s me over here.” “What I really do want to do is give a big shout out to Facebook for letting not only my friends and family but also me know that I have passed away,” she added.
She also sarcastically signed off the video with “an update from the other side,” saying: “Just want to give you a heads up that everything is fine. Life is fabulous here.”
After denying the lie, the 34-year old Bachelorette alum has been very open about her breast cancer stage four battle and disclosed the painful side effects of her treatment over the summer.
Honest About Struggles, Thankful for Progress
Katie Thurston has been very open about how the process of fighting cancer has affected her. “My memory is going,” she confessed in a June Instagram video, as she remembered an incident at customs where she was unable to recall her departure point.
However, Katie also had a positive ray of light to share amidst the exhausting side effects. She announced in July: “On the very day of the scans, the doctors found the tumors to be REDUCED!! I am so relieved to hear this fantastic news!”

Katie Thurston: What Led to Her Breast Cancer Diagnosis
In 2024 summer, Katie Thurston got frightened for the first time when she discovered a tiny lump in her left breast.
“I found it by myself,” The Bachelorette alum recounted her Instagram Stories in February 2025. “Initially, I thought it was related to my period. Or maybe the cause was muscle soreness from the gym.”
Katie first thought the new lump was the same as the one she had removed as a benign cyst from her left breast when she was 20 and hence it was just like it. But as the lump was still there, she decided to go to the doctor for a check-up. “I was going to the doctor thinking that it was nothing,” she said. “I was mistaken.”
Katie Thurston on Receiving Her Diagnosis
Katie Thurston found a lump and her doctor sent her to a specialist for an ultrasound. After that, she had a mammogram and a biopsy.
“It is only then that they can be sure if it is breast cancer,” she stated in a video on Instagram made on March 18, 2025. And the outcome was a turning point in her life.
Describing it as “the worst feeling I’ve ever had,” the ex-Bachelorette, in an interview with Good Morning America, recounted the experience: “You’re so devastated. It’s so shocking. As a 34-year-old woman, you’re not expecting it.”
Katie publicly revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, stage 3 cancer of the breast, on February 15, 2025, via her social media.
Katie Thurston on Sharing Her Journey
Katie Thurston shared that she went through a big emotional roller coaster in the two weeks following her diagnosis. “I felt every emotion that came up in the past two weeks — despair, anger, grief, denial. And then strength. Purpose. Energy. I really let it all out with tears,” she said on Instagram.
She further added her reason to share her fight through a video: “I did one thing that really helped me. I looked for similar stories to mine — young women with breast cancer. Invasive ductal carcinoma. Mastectomy. Breast cancer and pregnancy. All their journeys gave me hope. So I want to be that way for others. It is my first day of sharing and it will be a long story. Taking this first step of acknowledging my fate was the hardest. But I am ready to fight this.”

Katie Thurston on Fertility and Embryo Freezing
Katie Thurston was diagnosed with cancer just five months after she got engaged to comedian Jeff Arcuri, whom she met on Instagram in the spring of 2024.
“We thought we would be planning a wedding. We thought we would be trying for a baby,” she said to Good Morning America. “Instead, we are very certain that this year is going to be about treatment and recovery.”
After being advised that chemotherapy might affect her fertility, Katie and Jeff decided to freeze embryos — a move that she said allowed them to envision a future beyond cancer.
Facing the Realities of IVF
During her fight against cancer, Katie Thurston did not hesitate to share the dark side of IVF. “We only managed to fertilize 6 eggs out of 17 that were retrieved, 3 developed up to blastocyst, after genetic testing just 2 embryos were frozen – one Grade B and one Grade C. This is the reality of IVF,” she disclosed on Instagram Stories in March 2025.
Looking Ahead with Perspective
Katie Thurston also admitted to the possibility that a surrogate might be involved in her future. “Jeff and I talked about how it’s very important that I’m healthy and that when the time is there, surrogacy will probably the best way for us to go. A little reminder not to keep judging the celebrities who choose surrogacy as you don’t know what’s going on in their personal lives.”
Similarly, Katie explained that both she and Jeff are very aware of the situation, telling GMA they “also quite comfortable being a couple without kids.”

Katie Thurston and Jeff Arcuri’s Decision to Marry Amid Cancer Battle
Katie Thurston and Jeff Arcuri (2025-03-22) decided that they would get married even though Katie was going through a stage 4 breast cancer. They took their vows before an officiant, and the historic NYC wedding was held in the courtyard of their parents’ home. Apart from their families, a priest, and their newly adopted dog, Charlie, who was there to witness the event.
“It was so very, very nice,” Katie told Us Weekly. “Basically, the situation was that we both wanted to organize a wedding which was, anyway, a lot of emotions with chemo, the side effect, and the health situation. We are uncertain what the coming year will bring. Then one evening he said to me, ‘I want to prove to you that I still love you and that I’m not going anywhere. I’ll marry you tomorrow.’”
A Promise of Commitment
Katie said that in the short term, Jeff wanted the small wedding to be his way of “showing that he’s with me, through sickness and health” and even though they still dream of having a large celebration.
For Jeff, the move was also accompanied by a pragmatic aspect. To Us Weekly he explained, “I simply want to say to the hospital staff when I’m there with her, ‘My wife is here.’ There is more power in that. I don’t want to be separated from you during the ordeals.’”
Katie Thurston on Her Cancer Metastasizing
After her wedding to Jeff was less than a week old, Katie revealed that a PET scan had located “some spots” on her liver and that her condition had progressed to stage 4.
“Stage 4 can be very frightening — and it is,” she mentioned in an Instagram video on March 28, 2025. “However, considering that I am triple-positive and the spots on my liver are quite small and were found at an early stage, I am really optimistic with my outcome.”

Katie Thurston on Her Treatment Plan
After being informed that her cancer had advanced, Katie stated that the liver spots were breast cancer metastases: “So breast cancer is basically the root, and that will be the focus. Six rounds of chemotherapy to start, I guess.”
Nonetheless, not long before the process was going to begin, a new plan was put into place. “Today was the day that I was supposed to start my chemo,” she said on April 4, 2025.” “I was all set with my cold cap, cold socks, snacks, blankets, medications, and entertainment. My aunt Lindsey flew in to be with me this weekend for the recovery process.”
The newly updated information from her care team, which changes the timeline and causes the waiting of therapy, was noted by Katie.
A Change in Therapy
Katie, right before undergoing chemotherapy, made a shocking disclosure. “The call was made to me yesterday that the pathology of my liver, breast, and lymph node samples have turned out to be HER2 Negative, whereas my samples at Kaiser were HER2+. I was about to take my steroid for chemo prep. Instead, I am going to my doctor to understand how this happened, what testing we are going to do, and what this means for my treatment plan.”
The new results have prompted Katie to express her sentiment that “chemo is no longer an option.” She stated that while she should be glad and take it as a positive sign, the continual changes have been quite tough. “Within two months, I have gotten three different updated diagnoses. I believe thoroughness and the second medical opinion have been my most important tools during my cancer stage journey.”
Katie Thurston’s Message of Resilience and Proactivity
In her ongoing fight against cancer, Katie Thurston has adopted a day-by-day attitude. “At times I‘m confused with life and yet I‘m living it,” she wrote on her Boobie Broadcast channel in March 2025. “But whether I like it or not, this is my life and I have to make the best of it. They say live like you’re dying, but now that I am, it’s harder than before. And don’t misunderstand me, every day, we are all death’s next door neighbors. Not in a grim manner but in the inexorable cycle of life. So cancer or not, I am blessed with today. I do have my gloomy moments and days, yet I am determined not to let them take over my time, illness or not. Besides, she communicated a significant message to her audience: “Never put off. Be proactive. Get checked,” she advised on Good Morning America. “Maybe you are doing yourself a favor down the line.”

Katie Thurston on Memory Loss During Treatment
After nearly two months of treatment, Katie Thurston revealed a tough side effect that she struggled with: memory loss.
“My memory is going,” she confessed in a June 1, 2025 Instagram post. “Experiencing customs, and they were like, ‘Where are you coming from?’ And I looked at him, and I was, like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know.’”
She also remembered a funny incident with her husband, Jeff Arcuri. After a minor argument, she was not able to completely reconstruct the scene: “I was, like, ‘It’s happened before.’ He was, like, ‘When?’ I was, like, ‘I don’t know, but I know it has!’”
Though they are facing the ordeal, Katie stated that they with Jeff find a way to laugh. “We can now laugh about it. Cancer is s–t. Sometimes I’m like, ‘Stop feeling sorry for yourself.’ Other times I’m like, ‘You’re allowed to feel bad for yourself. Cancer f–king sucks.’”
