Ed‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Sheeran Explains His Big Weight Loss Which Resulted in His Body Transformation and Becoming ‘a responsible ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌dad’

After‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Becoming a Dad, Ed Sheeran Replaces Post-Show Pints with Pilates

Ed Sheeran has not only changed his body but also his way of living after becoming a dad. The singer has swapped post-show pints for Pilates, as he told Men’s Health UK.
In a shirtless Men’s Health UK cover, the “Shape of You” singer, 34, flaunted his chiseled body and revealed to the fitness mag that the moment that changed everything was when his first daughter Lyra was just two weeks old. “My best mate was over and we had a bottle of wine. I went to bed and Lyra woke up 20 minutes after I’d fallen asleep. I woke up and thought, ‘F—, I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful,’” he recalled.
Moreover, Sheeran, who is a father of Lyra and Jupiter, 3, with wife Cherry Seaborn, explains why it is important for him to be able to do “the night stuff” as he tells Men’s Health UK, “It was all a part of becoming a responsible dad, wanting to feel and look good.” ‍

‌‍‍‌Ed‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Sheeran Discloses 30lbs Weight Loss and New Post-Performance Habit

It has been five years since Ed Sheeran and his wife welcomed their daughter Lyra and during this time the singer has managed to drop 30 lbs. through a combination of Pilates, weight training, and running, by making a considerate choice of heading straight to his hotel room for dinner and a massage after a show rather than hitting the pubs.
“I am just an average person who can be influenced quite easily and if I finish a gig and my friends are there, I could go out,” the singer confesses to the media. “So actually having to be in my hotel room… I get the massage and, as soon as the massage is finished, I have to go to bed. Therefore, it is excellent for preserving my voice, having enough energy, and staying ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌healthy.”

Ed‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Sheeran Credits Pilates and Low-Impact Training with Keeping His Body Fit Sustainably During the Tour

At first, his lockdown fitness routine was just doing emails and walking on the treadmill, and then he, together with his wife, started to work out via Zoom with a personal trainer, Ali Thomas.
He mentioned that his main workout on tour is on the Pilates reformer. He went on to say, “the day after a show, the very last thing I want to do is bench press and deadlift, so this is a really gentle way to still have the same level of exercise and feel like I’ve burnt calories, but I’ve also stretched.”
He told that not long ago he had rewatch the footage of himself from 2015 in the film Live at Wembley Stadium: Jumpers for Goalposts, which was a kind of a diary of his landmark gigs at the legendary London ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌venue.

Ed‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Sheeran Says He “Looked 40 Then and 24 Now” After Giving Up His Hard-Party Lifestyle

“Every day I get interviewed in the morning and the journalists ask me if I enjoyed the previous night’s party. I keep telling them that I stayed out till 6 a.m., did tequila shots, smoked cigarettes, and did numerous other things with this person or that person. On top of that, I was playing shows every day for seven days a week. But when you really watch it and look at me now, you’ll agree that I look 40 in those pictures and 24 now.”
Sheeran detailed his path to transformation in an Instagram post. He posted the two cover shots and wrote that he never thought he would do this kind of magazine, but here he is. Twelve months back I was a beer-drinking, kebab-eating, and smoking guy. Having children really made me abandon all those bad habits (sorry for the wordplay), and I became very much into working out and living a balanced ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌life.”

Ed‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Sheeran Gives Insights Into His New Balanced, Family-Oriented Lifestyle

Currently, as he elaborated to Men’s Health, “I do believe it’s something parents all over the world can relate to when they become parents and suddenly they want to be a bit healthier and be more in rhythm with their routines … I am not scaring by saying that we all should run marathons and blah, blah, blah. And I am not selling super-healthy eating or this or that. I still allow myself and I don’t go around with a little tub of grilled turkey. Everything is about moderation.”
Sheeran adds, “It’s not like I have given up on enjoying myself, I still drink. I am very much into red wine, a really good meal, but it is not the case every day.” And as he mentioned in his Instagram post, it is “time for a mince pie and a ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌pint.”
