Bella Hadid Shares Health Update
Hadid Bella revealed her Lyme disease struggle by sharing a series of candid pictures from her hospital stay and her sister Gigi immediately expressed support.
Five pictures on Instagram posted on Wednesday revealed the 28-year-old model tethered to an IV, resting in a hospital bed. In one, she appeared as if she was covering her mouth in pain, and in the other, with her face reddened, a wrap was firmly pressed against her forehead.
The Orebella perfume founder didn’t only show the difficult moments, but also some of her comfort and treats like the pictures of her wearing a warm Pikachu onesie, a slice of pizza in bed at night, and even playing cards. With a selfie in the elevator, holding a coffee, and a text, “I love you guys very much but I am so sorry that I always disappear,” she finished the series.

Support From Family, Friends, and Fans
Bella’s sister Gigi, 30, was among the first people to send a message of support. “I love you! I hope you feel strong and good as you deserve, very soon!!!!!” she wrote, also tagging her as a real “Lyme warrior.” Their mother, Yolanda Hadid — who has also been very open about her struggle with Lyme disease — supported the statement.
Close friend Tallulah Willis offered her support as well and wrote, “You are so loved sweet bean.”
Supportive messages from fans also came in quickly. “Sending you love and healing vibes!” one comment read, and another wrote, “Keep up the good work, you’re going to get through this Queen!!!!”
Despite Bella not sharing why she was hospitalized, she gave a similar health update in 2023, posting about her ongoing Lyme disease treatment from a hospital bed.
Bella on Living With Lyme
During an honest and open August 2023 Instagram post, Bella shared some memories of her ordeal with the disease. “The little me that suffered would be so proud of grown me for not giving up on myself,” she mentioned with pictures of the treatment she was getting.
She confessed the struggle with Lyme disease in a way that had impacted her silently: “Being in such a condition, deteriorating with time and my job while I was trying to make myself, my family, and the people who support me proud, had allowed the negative energy to affect me in a way I can’t really explain. To be so very sad and sick among the most blessings, privilege, opportunity, and love was, perhaps, the most perplexing thing ever.”

A Shared Battle of the Family
Bella has been very candid about what she terms as “almost 15 years of invisible suffering”, and she has also mentioned that the fight would be “worth it” if it enabled her to love “from a full cup” and be her true self at last.
Her mother, Yolanda, 61 – who has also had Lyme disease – disclosed in 2015 that both Bella and her brother Anwar, 26, were diagnosed with the disease in 2012. At the Global Lyme Alliance Gala, Yolanda, accepting her award, said: “This award is for Anwar and Bella. It is my token and my promise to you that I will not allow you to live a life of pain and suffering.”
Other Stars Living With Lyme
Bella and her family definitely didn’t make the decision to keep on fighting their battle themselves without any support. At the beginning of the year, the singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake announced that he suffered from Lyme disease, too. In her 2022 Netflix documentary, Not Just a Girl, Shania Twain tells about her rise to fame, as well as about her illness, revealing that she experienced dizziness and “blackouts” during her concerts before being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2003.
