Scott Mills Sacked Over ‘Historic Male Relationship’ Amid BBC Conduct Claims

Scott Mills, the BBC’s Radio 2 presenter who was making almost £360, 000, has been removed by the broadcaster over the allegations concerning a relationship that happened more than 10 years ago, reports The Mirror.

BBC referred to his “personal conduct” as the factor in his dismissal.

Mills tied the knot with his long-term partner Sam Vaughn in Barcelona in 2024.

The BBC in a statement that accompanied the abrupt exit said, “While we don’t usually comment on personal matters relating to individuals, we can confirm that Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”

Director of Music Lorna Clarke at the BBC instructed a staff mail the news of Scott Mills’ dismissal.

She stated, “I wanted to personally get in touch with you to say that Scott Mills has left the Breakfast show and the BBC.

“I understand that you will probably find this news quite shocking and sudden and hence you will be very surprised.

“Furthermore, many of us have collaborated with Scott over a long period of time and in various programmes on Radio 1, 5Live and Radio 2 as well as on TV.”

Last Tuesday, Scott Mills ended his final BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show with a nonchalant “see you tomorrow, ” not realizing that would be his last.

Other BBC presenter Gary Davies stepped in on Wednesday, explaining to the audience that he was “covering for Scott Mills.” Davies, who presents Sounds of the 80s, often substitutes for other Radio 2 DJs when they are away.

People from BBC were very surprised at the release of Mills. BBC News reporter Sima Kotecha shared on air how people reacted: “This is massive news. We actually heard quite a few gasps in the newsroom when people realised that he had been sacked.”

Although the departure reasons have not been made public yet, Kotecha said, “We do not know why he was sacked but we certainly know that it will be unwelcome news for most.”

Reacting to the news, BBC Radio 2 host Jeremy Vine said he was surprised on air: “That was totally the first time that I was exposed to that story opening the news. I hadn’t heard of anything about it until I checked about 17 minutes ago on the BBC website.”

Scott Mills started off his career at BBC Radio in 1998, hosting the early breakfast show from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m.

In July 2005, he got the chance to present an early-evening weekday slot. At this time he was just covering Sara Cox’s maternity leave. When Cox decided not to return, Mills took over the slot permanently, hosting The Scott Mills Show from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Commenting on his recent abrupt sacking, Jeremy Vine said on air, “I only had the information that was given to you in the bulletin. Scott Mills’ move to BBC Radio 2 was announced in July 2022. His new show airing from 2 to 4 pm started on 31st October 2022, after Steve Wright in the Afternoon was finished the previous month.

Along with his husband, Sam Vaughan, Scott took part in the celebrity series of Race Across The World (second series). The two of them not only finished the race but are victorious, having traveled over 12, 500 km South America, from Belém, Brazil, to Frutillar, Chile.
