Jeremy‍‍‍ Strong isn’t about to apologize for taking his acting as seriously as he ‍‍‍does.

Jeremy Strong Defends His Acting Approach

The‍‍‍ actor would be far too deeply invested in his art to concern himself about making fellow actors “uncomfortable” through his acting style, Jeremy Strong.

In the last few years, Jeremy Strong, who plays a major role in the show Social Reckoning, has stirred up controversy over using the extreme method acting; at the same time, he has also been commended for it. When the interviewer asked him if this acting method that he uses is “noted” or “noticed” by those around him, a bit disapprovingly, he replied in laughing off the question.

“That’s very hard for me to answer for you,” he answered with laughter to The New Yorker Radio Hour podcast on a visit. “Undoubtedly some people have appeared to do…” Strong let his words drift before adding:

“I don’t want anyone to be disrupted or feel that the way in which the others work gets in the way of theirs.” ‘First, do no harm’ is the motto, isn’t it? Still do, but be f—ing fully devoted, totally, to the work that you are carrying ‍‍‍out.”

Jeremy Stands by His Intense Acting Style

When‍‌‍‍‌ host David Remnick inquired whether Strong was disappointed that his colleagues appeared more or less disinterested in their jobs, the newcomer actor refuted that explanation. “No, I basically mean that I only show up on set to fully dedicate my efforts to the work itself,” Strong revealed. “Hence, if some feel that my take on it is too serious, or that it alters the atmosphere of the room so much that it becomes uncomfortable, I guess, I don’t need to say sorry.”

“Well, I think that directors who are fortunate to have strong working for them also have the very attitude of working for the material,” Strong said. “I personally think that quite often, people’s reactions to the whole process are based on their own ‍‌‍‍‌individualities.”

Jeremy Strong’s Method Acting Draws Criticism From Brian Cox

This‍‌‍‍‌ is something that cannot be denied; Strong has gotten a good reputation from the past few years.

Brian Cox, Succession’s father, has been very open when it comes to disliking method acting, and even Brian Cox had called this type of acting annoying during an interview he had done with Town & Country magazine back in 2023.

But at the same time, Cox appreciated Strong for being such an amazing actor. He was also quick to mention that the rest of the very talented cast (Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, and Matthew Macfadyen) was totally fine with Strong’s intense method acting style.

What Cox was not happy with and kept repeating was that Strong’s method of staying in character even when the cameras were not running was unnecessary in his point of view. He stated, “When Strong gets his emotions too involved in the character, then he will lose track.” “But no, he would lose character? Strong really knows how to act,” Cox explained.

Brian Cox is an actor who strongly believes in the importance of method acting, and so, when his son-in-law decided to go that way with his career, there’s bound to be some friction. There were definitely some differences there between method acting and a more spontaneous ‍‌‍‍‌approach.

Jeremy Strong’s Method Acting Approach Draws Attention Again

Strong’s method acting continued to be the subject of discussion in the coming years. This includes his casting as the Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg, in the upcoming The Social Reckoning. In fact, the writer-director Aaron Sorkin—who previously directed Strong in The Trial of the Chicago Seven—went so far as to tell the cast about the things to anticipate if Strong was the scene partner. “Jeremy does a lot of his own work. He does a tremendous amount of work before he shows up on your set,” Sorkin said to The New York Times through an interview released in the last month. “He did not speak in his own voice on the set or walk the way Jeremy walks. I told all the other actors in his scenes, ‘Guys, he’s not going to be hanging out with you at Craft Service. He’s not going to be yucking it up with you between takes. He’s probably not going to speak to you at all. He is going to treat you the way he imagines Mark treats the people around him. ‘And that’s what ‍‌‍‍‌happened.”

Jeremy Joins Star-Studded Cast of The Social Reckoning

Co-starring‍‌‍‍‌ with Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison, Bill Burr, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen feature in this upcoming movie. It revolves around a whistleblower, Frances Haugen (Madison), who joins Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (White) for investigating and revealing the dark secrets of Zuckerberg’s company ‍‌‍‍‌Facebook.
