Dua Lipa is taking Samsung to court for $15 million, accusing the company of ‘using her image without consent.’
Dua Lipa Files a Lawsuit Against Samsung for Allegedly Using Her Image on TV Boxes Without Her Permission
The 30-year-old singer has blamed the technology company for using her picture in their advertisement of televisions without asking for her permission.
According to the complaint, Samsung used a copyrighted photo of the music icon on the outer packaging of TV sets commonly sold in stores.
As a result, the company was falsely able to imply that the star was supporting the product, the complaint argues.
The photograph that the plaintiff claims appeared on the television packaging is named Dua Lipa Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024, and the plaintiff is indisputably the owner of the copyright, the complaint states. The complaint was docketed last Friday in a federal court in California.

Dua Says Samsung Refused Her Pleas to Cease Using Her Image as Fans Are Buying TVs “Just Because” of Her
Besides this, she has also charged Samsung Electronics with illegally using her personality.
In their complaint, her legal team has included images of social media posts and comments, alleging that the presence of the singer’s face on the product packaging enticed consumers to buy the product.
In one of the screenshots, a fan remarks that they will purchase the TV “just because of Dua’s picture on it.”
According to her attorneys, the Grammy-winning recording artist found out about Samsung’s infringement in June last year and urged them to stop using her image, but they refused repeatedly.
Dua Lipa Claims Samsung Refuses to Comment as Her Brand Identity Was “Diluted”
They said Samsung’s unauthorized use of Lipa’s image has “caused and is still causing dilution” of her “brand identity and commercial goodwill by the mere fact that the public is misled into thinking that she endorses and approves” the relevant products.
A Samsung Electronics spokesperson told Reuters in an email that the company is unable to comment on the matter of a lawsuit at this point, and Dua Lipa’s lawyers have so far not replied to a request for their comments on the case.
