Rita‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Ora Believes Egg Freezing Was Her ‘Best’ Move In Her 20s After Learning Of Her Mother Suffering Early Menopause Due To Cancer ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Treatment

Rita‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Ora Shares Why She Froze Her Eggs in Her 20s

When Rita Ora was in her 20s, she made a very significant decision regarding her health and fertility. Speaking to Women’s Health U.K. in an article dated March 10, the singer disclosed that she had two sessions of egg freezing at 24 and 27 years of age, based on her doctor’s recommendation.
Her main reason for taking this step was her mother’s very early menopause due to her breast cancer treatment. “At that time I was told that it was an excellent moment to secure the best quality [eggs],” she remarked. “In‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ fact, it turned out to be the best piece of advice as I am now in my mid-30s and quite a few of my friends are having a tough time.”
Egg freezing is a method of fertility preservation where you harvest your eggs while they are unfertilized and then freeze them for possible future use. It is said that the peak time for egg freezing is from the early 20s to the early 30s, however, the average age in the U.K. hovers around 38, relying on the statistics from the Human Fertilisation & Embryology ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Authority.

Rita‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌’s Mother Battle With Cancer and Premature Menopause Pushed Her to Freeze Eggs

Rita Ora confided that the main reason behind her freezing eggs at the age of 20s was the health condition of her mother. Her‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ mother, Vera Sahatçiu, was still very young, only 39, when in 2005 breast cancer was diagnosed. The therapy she took made her menopause ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌early…
“I have become obsessed with the idea of longevity and I suppose it all began when my mom was unwell, when she found out she had breast cancer when still quite young, and that subconsciously made me more conscious of health,” Ora explained during a conversation with Women’s Health U.K. “The therapy which my mother underwent resulted in her experiencing menopause at an early stage. Hence I am trying to get ahead of the situation and educate myself about it.”
Furthermore, her mother’s diagnosis deeply affected the mental state of Ora, especially at the time when she was a teenager. “It’s only now that I’m recalling… I think my mind would go very quickly to the worst possible scenario,” she said, as she talked about the anxiety that she went ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌through.
