Perrie Edwards Breaks Down in Tears While Recounting “Horrendous” Pregnancy Loss at 24 Weeks

A Heartbreaking Secret on the Road

Perrie Edwards is giving insight into her personal life, outlining an incident which is one of the hardest to remember by her. The Little Mix star that is a proud mother of her son Axel that is three years old, whom she had with her fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, has recently made known to the public that she lost the pregnancy when her son was just a baby.

By telling that story on the We Need to Talk podcast, which was recorded on August 19, Perrie Edwards was oscillating between different feelings and emotions. “It must have been the case that we were expecting when Axel was still crawling,” she reminisced. The news came as a shock to her while she was busy getting ready for the Little Mix tour. “I was at rehearsals and I thought, ‘Oh I don’t feel good.’ I had every symptom possible so I was like, ‘I think I’m pregnant.’”

The result of a test was quick to confirm the assumption, and thus they were both very happy with it. Nonetheless, that initial joy was overshadowed by fear after she and her bandmates, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall, went on their tour in April 2022. Performing on stage was not supposed to be the problem, but it became a place of constant anxiety. “Every night before a show, I kept bleeding,” she said in her memory. The bleeding was accompanied by a heartbreaking ending: “I remember sitting and thinking, ‘This is it, I’ve lost the baby.’”

A Cruel Twist of Fate for Perrie Edwards

However, in a cruel twist, the anxiety was always followed by a huge relief. Each time the doctor was visited, it was better news than before: the baby was still going well despite the bleeding. That hope stayed with her until her 20-week scan, but as soon as she was there, a terrible feeling took over her.
She said that it was “the worst day of my life, like horrendous.” Even before the doctor had his say, her motherly instinct was shouting. “It was the first time I felt something was wrong with the scan,” she told.

After the doctor broke the tragic news, the mourning took over their whole being. The X Factor alum revealed that the tears she shed were so intense that she couldn’t even drive home from the appointment, a moment she refers to as an absolute dissociation from reality.

The Trauma of Loss and a Powerful Plea for Privacy

The trauma of losing the baby was so terrible that the fact that she was so far made the loss be highlighted. “I was just traumatized,” Perrie Edwards confessed. At 24 weeks, the baby was already not just a promise anymore; they were a physical manifestation of her future. She had, in fact, commenced with her nesting, drawing up the plans of the room and fantasizing about all the small things. “It’s really tough,” she shared, “to have all that gone in such a way.”

The main factor that magnified this loss to the point of being heartbreaking was the difference it was from a miscarriage she experienced before her pregnancy with her third child. She stated that while that loss was sad, it didn’t affect her in the same way. “Because it was so early, I was just like, ‘Oh, that’s sad.’” In this case, however, the grieving was of an entirely different character.

The whole thing was a great eye-opener for her about the negativity that comes from the public speculating on private matters. Since fans started guessing that she was pregnant in 2022, which was also the time she was going through a very difficult period, she now has a message for all those who love to gossip about the pregnancy of celebrities. “It’s such a vulnerable thing for women,” she said. “It’s a very private thing… You don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors.” To make the point, she mentioned that a pregnancy full of fear and uncertainty is quite the ordeal, from the “stresses and the scans and the complications,” which is before the added pressure of public scrutiny.
