Christopher Allen Lloyd is a well-known American character actor who was born on October 22, 1938. Beginning in the 1960s, he has made many appearances in films, television shows, and theatrical works combined. In the Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990), he played the role of Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown. He is also well-known for his role as Jim Ignatowski in the comedy series Taxi (1978–1983), for which he was awarded two Emmy Awards.

During the 1960s and early 1970s, theatre plays in the Northeastern region brought Lloyd to the notice of the general public. As a result of his work, he was awarded both the Drama Desk and the Obie. He made his debut in the film industry with the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975). Lloyd’s work in Twenty Bucks (1993) got him an Independent Spirit Award and earned him a third Emmy. In 1992, he appeared as a guest star in Road to Avonlea (1992), playing the role of Alistair Dimple. Lloyd was born on October 22, 1938, in Stamford, Connecticut. His mother, Ruth Lloyd (née Lapham; 1896–1984), was a singer and the sister of San Francisco mayor Roger Lapham. His father, Samuel R. Lloyd Jr., was a lawyer and his mother’s spouse was a singer. One of his siblings, Samuel Lloyd, was an actor in the 1950s and 1960s. He is the youngest of three boys and four females, and he is the youngest of the four. Lloyd’s maternal grandfather, Lewis Henry Lapham, was one of the founders of the Texaco oil corporation. In addition, Lloyd is a descendant of John Howland, who was a passenger on the Mayflower. During his childhood, Lloyd was reared in Westport, Connecticut, where he attended Staples High School and was a part of the establishment of the Staples Players, the school’s theatrical organization.

Lloyd and Catharine Dallas Dixon Boyd were married on June 6, 1959. They were divorced in 1971. He married actress Kay Tornborg in 1974 and divorced her in 1987. Lloyd’s third marriage, to Carol Ann Vanek, had been going on for almost two years until they filed for divorce in July 1991. His fourth marriage, to screenwriter Jane Walker Wood, lasted from 1992 to 2005. In 2016, he married Lisa Loiacono, Lloyd’s real estate agent after he sold his Montecito, California home in 2012. His prior residence on the land was destroyed by the Tea Fire in November 2008.

Ruth Lapham Lloyd, Lloyd’s philanthropic mother, died in 1984, at the age of 88. Her other surviving children were Donald L. Mygatt, Antoinette L. Mygatt Lucas, Samuel Lloyd III (who passed away in 2017), Ruth Lloyd Scott, Ax Lloyd, and Adele L. Kinney. Lloyd’s nephew, Sam Lloyd (1963-2020), portrayed lawyer Ted Buckland on Scrubs.
