Mr. Ibu, whose real name was John Ikechukwu Okafor, was a well-known comedian and actor who was originally from Nigeria. At the time of his death on March 2, 2024, he had reached the age of 62 years old. He was born on October 17, 1961. The one-of-a-kind acting style that Mr. Ibu displayed during his more than two hundred film parts, which included the “Mr. Ibu” series, caused a great number of people to laugh out loud. For the happiness that he offered to the world via his films, he is revered, and in Nigeria, he was admired for his humorous abilities.

The woman who was married to Mr. Ibu, who was also known as John Okafor, was Stella Maris Okafor. Mr. Ibu, a well-known Nigerian comedian and actor, is married to Stella Maris Okafor, who is also known by his stage name, Mr. Ibu. The pair first tied the knot in a traditional ceremony in 2010, and then in 2015, they celebrated their wedding with a lavish white wedding. However, even though their relationship is filled with love, it has also been fraught with challenges. 

On several occasions, Mr. Ibu has shown his appreciation for Stella, praising her as an amazing wife who has made a substantial contribution to the enhancement of his life. Despite this, the year 2021 was marked by a certain amount of public unrest. He was accused of mistreating his other wife and cheating on her, according to allegations that arose from Mr. Ibu’s second wife.

In addition, Stella expressed her worries about the disruptions in their marital peace that were brought about by Mr. Ibu’s adopted daughter, especially concerning the mismanagement of funds during Mr. Ibu’s sickness.

Mr. Ibu’s Cause of Death

John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu died on Saturday, March 2, 2024. His death was caused by cardiac arrest, which is a condition in which the heart stops beating irregularly yet continues to beat properly. Before he passed away, he had been out of commission for a few months. Many assert that he worsened greatly in the week leading up to his death.

Education and early life

Mr. Ibu completed his primary school in 1974 and moved to Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria, with his brother when their father died. During this period, it is reported that Mr. Ibu began working in low-paying positions to pay for his schooling and provide for his family as well.

Following the completion of secondary school, the actor enrolled at the College of School in Yola to continue his studies; nevertheless, his enrollment was terminated due to financial issues.

In the course of his hustling and quest for better opportunities, Mr. Ibu eventually became a hairdresser before he began his photography career. Later in his career, he was employed by a firm that manufactured boxes.

In the future, Mr. Ibu will achieve financial security and enroll in a course at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu. He would continue his education during his time there.

Mr Ibu’s family

During his lifetime, he was married twice and had more than ten children, most of whom were adopted. Stella Maris Okafor, Mr. Ibu’s second wife, and his children Emmanuel Mandela Okafor, Chelsea Okafor, Jay Jay Okafor, Daniel Okafor, and Jasmine Chioma, his adopted daughter, are among those who are left behind after his passing. In the year 2015, Mr. Ibu and Stella Maris exchanged their vows.

Mr. Ibu’s Health issue

Since October 2023, his health has been steadily declining. The trouble began when he was working on the set of a movie that was being produced in Nigeria.

During that period, a video of him being treated in the hospital was uploaded to his Instagram profile to raise money to help him pay for his medical expenditures.

During the video, Mr. Ibu voiced his concern that the condition may result in the amputation of his legs. A bout of sickness that required him to endure seven operations ultimately resulted in the amputation of his right leg from the knee in November of 2023. This brought about the fulfillment of his worries.

According to his family, the amputation was performed to maintain his life and improve his prospects of making a full recovery. On about the 25th of January, 2024, Mr. Ibu was discharged from the hospital, only to be readmitted one month later. As a consequence of cardiac arrest, he was declared dead on Saturday at Evercare Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria according to the medical staff there.

Mr. Ibu Adopted Daughter Controversy 

Mr Ibu’s adopted daughter, Jasmine, who also participated in the live session, verified his statements, pointing out that on one of the evenings Mr Ibu was in the hospital, his wife went out. She said that Ms Okafor is unaware of the medications he requires to keep alive or the diet he has been prescribed. She alleged that the whole situation is going on for financial reasons.

“The whole affair was about money. Daddy sold a block of property worth N4 million for N2.5 million because she placed pressure on him. Regarding his memory troubles, Jasmine said that physicians performed a scan and determined that his brain was OK.

“As we speak, we are planning a TV series, and she is aware. She remarked, “Whatever I’m doing, as long as I’m pushing Daddy, I should be pushing her.” She further said that the video was premeditated and that Ms Okafor cried crocodile tears. Two of Mr Ibu’s sons, Val and Daniel, corroborated her assertions.
