Summer Pardi Reveals Dad’s Cancer Diagnosis Before Divorce News

Less than 24 hours before they announced their divorce, Summer Pardi revealed to social media that her father had been diagnosed with cancer.
“A little life update on my dad… I know everyone on here loves him dearly, even those who don’t know him personally. He’s a special man, and he’s going to kick cancer’s ass,” she wrote while posting a picture to her Instagram stories on Thursday, July 2nd.
The image was reposted from her father’s Instagram page, Larry Duncan, where he writes about “why I haven’t been very active on social media.”

Larry Duncan Diagnosed With Multiple Myeloma

Larry Duncan attributed the injury to a tractor accident and said that he eventually “dragged” himself to the emergency room after months of pain when he discovered that he had “several fractures and disc herniations.”

Further work-up showed that the fractures were related to multiple myeloma, a malignancy that has been slowly devouring my bones, he wrote. According to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, multiple myeloma is a blood cancer that is diagnosed when malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow have grown.The foundation notes that the malignancy is “highly manageable.”

Larry Duncan Starts Cancer Treatment

After posting a follow-up message saying that he has begun treatment, Larry Duncan said, “I have a wonderful group of doctors around me, and I am really grateful to them, as well as the fact that it wasn’t something weird and wild like I hoped it wasn’t.”

He also posted a message saying that he would continue to be scarce on social media and take it easy on himself. “I am in a pretty good place mentally and taking one day at a time trying to fight the ‘old man’ in me,” he wrote.

Hours later, after sharing the news, Summer posted a follow-up message on Instagram, confirming the split and revealing how long the marriage had lasted. “The ‘D’ stands for divorce,” she declared, before adding that she and Jon, 41, had been married for five years.“Therefore we have decided to part ways after much consideration,” they wrote in a joint message.
“Our daughters will come first, and we ask that you respect our decision as we work through this together as co-parents. Thank you for your respect and support.”

The “Dirt on My Boots” singer and the 37-year-old were set up on a date by a mutual friend of his mother’s, who used to be a client of Summer’s when she was working as a hairdresser.

“Long story short, Jon’s mother told him my number,” Summer said to PEOPLE in 2020. “He was playing in my hometown, and he called me up and asked me to come out and see him. I was in Vegas, so I said, ‘Maybe next time you can come to me…’ I had no idea how much he was touring, so he wrote me back with a response of, ‘How about I fly you out to Denver next week?’ “
Jon proposed to her in October 2019, and the two got married the following year in Tennessee. The ex-couple have two daughters together, Presley Fawn, 3, and Sienna Grace, 2.
