Martin Freeman has wed actress Rachel Benaissa
Sherlock star Martin Freeman, 55, has allegedly tied the knot with Rachel Benaissa this year. The happy couple showed their wedding rings together at the premiere of Martin’s film, The Long Winter, which happened yesterday. According to the tabloid, a spokesman revealed the engagement of the two. Martin wore a gold wedding ring, and Rachel, 32, wore an engagement ring that was studded with diamonds. They were engaged in 2020, and their relationship went on for two years and eighteen months. Previously to their breakup in 2016, Martin was married to actress Amanda Abbington for 16 years. They co-parented the couple’s two children: Grace, who is already 21, and Joe, who is 18 years old. Rachel has appeared in BBC’s People and This Way Up, and besides that, she seems rather close to Martin’s children.

Martin Freeman Reveals Cooking Hobby With Wife Rachel Benaissa
Martin Freeman once talked to Jessie and Lennie Ware about his romance with Rachel Benaissa while at their Table Manners podcast. He stated that during their leisure time the couple also cook and prepare meals for themselves.
When Lennie asked if Rachel, a French woman, could be called a cordon bleu chef, Martin made fun of the remark. He said that there were two things she loved most, which were cheese and wine. As a matter of fact, he said, Rachel describes herself as someone who is passionately fond of food and wine, which is why they cook together quite a bit for pleasure.
Sherlock fan Martin also revealed private information to Jonathan Ross.
While discussing his experience of a Sherlock-themed escape room that his family had been to, Martin admitted that the family took a long time trying to get their clues and solve the puzzles to escape in time. “We did take long,” he said.
Martin Jokes About Sherlock Escape Room Trip With Wife Rachel
Martin Freeman quipped that he’d take Rachel Benaissa, his wife, together with their two children to a detective Sherlock-themed escape room, though he confessed that he wanted to leave only after the attraction since it also used his voice.
Romesh Ranganathan, upon asking him, wondered why he had visited, and Martin responded while laughing: “My voice is featured in it, so, I couldn’t get enough of either – I was tired of not seeing or listening to myself that week, so I… well, I wasn’t obliged not to go, but I just felt like spending more time in there.”
Martin and Rachel have been romantically involved since roughly the end of five years ago, after Martin ended things with actor Amanda Abbington in 2016. Amanda had once referred to herself as “a mess” when they ended things, also saying they were “just plain incapable of carrying on without each other”.
Rachel has even been warmly accepted into the circle of Martin’s family. A TikTok made by his older daughter Grace depicts the girl being danced with the man while their two dachshunds, Joe and a dog from the family, also enjoying themselves in Martin’s Christmas movie, Nativity!

Who Is Martin Freeman’s Wife, Rachel Benaissa?
Grace posted under the picture, “Merry Christmas from Mr. Maddens,” referring to her father’s role in the festive film Nativity.
In addition to TV appearances, Rachel Grace has built a diverse career across film, TV and commercials. Rachel got a nameless teaching assistant part in the BBC People series, a hit show in which Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones feature as leads, and she was also seen in Lindsay Lohan’s Netflix film, Irish Wish, and Aisling Bea’s sitcom, This Way Up. She’s also done commercial work for brands like Heineken and Santander Dublin Airport.
Rachel Grace was a pupil at Dublin’s Gaiety School of Acting, a place with alumni such as Colin Farrell, Aidan Turner, and Olivia Wilde.
In addition to acting, Rachel Grace has written screenplays and was second in Outstanding Screenplay’s TV pilot competition. Her screenplays have been described as a mix of drama and dark comedy. Right now she is developing a horror-dark comedy series named SELF-CARE GIRLIE.
Rachel and Martin appeared together as a couple for the first time in public at Raindance Film Festival’s opening-night best-seller film screening, which was held in The Dorchester.
Amanda Abbington Reveals Her Painful Breakup With Martin Freeman
Martin Freeman’s ex-girlfriend, Amanda Abbington, is still friends with Freeman, and they seem on good terms. Still, some say that seeing Martin moving on to a much younger woman probably hurt Amanda the most as his job continued to skyrocket. March 2023 was when Amanda was quite honest about the pain she felt from their breakup, stating that she had a lot of self-hatred during that time.
In a chat with Full Disclosure, the actress confessed that she had come to the realisation she needed personal growth after the relationship’s dissolution. Moreover, she also shared another very intimate instance after having a disagreement with her daughter, Grace, who was around 15, about her school uniform.
Amanda described that Grace and her mother were heading to the school, but Grace failed to catch the bus, and her daughter did not take heed of her mother, which was quite disheartening. This made her go back to the emotions she kept hidden, even from her therapist.

Amanda Abbington Reflects on Martin’s Split and Mental Health Struggles
Amanda Abbington revealed that she had struggled with intense feelings of guilt and anxiety following her separation from Martin Freeman. The Full Disclosure podcast host talked about how back in those days, it was usually she that blamed herself when her family thought there had been mistakes made by her or when mothering or acting fell short of expectations.
She recalled the impact that she felt after realising she had not had these same very distressing thoughts for six years, which is an indication of how much progress she has made since the split. Amanda previously revealed that she and Martin kept their separation private for six months because they wanted to remain professional while working together on Sherlock.
Speaking to The Sunday Times Magazine, she explained that only a few people knew about the split initially, partly because of practical arrangements involving hotels. The former couple continued filming the BBC drama and made an effort to remain civil.
“We still get on really well; we still really both admire each other as actors,” Amanda said, describing Martin as “a great guy” while acknowledging that they could no longer live together.
The pair first met while working on the film Men Only in 2000 and later played John and Mary Watson in Sherlock. Amanda is now in a relationship with Jonathan Goodwin, 43, a former escapologist and daredevil. The pair had been friends for years before their relationship began. Just two months into their romance, Jonathan suffered life-changing injuries during a stunt rehearsal for America’s Got Talent: Extreme in 2021. He was crushed between two suspended cars and was left permanently paralysed, subsequently using a wheelchair.
