Taylor Frankie Paul Opens Up: Rehab, Depression, and Being on Meds

Taylor Frankie Paul Breaks Silence on Rehab Stay

Taylor Frankie Paul is no longer keeping her recent rehab stint private.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star opened up about the episode in her life in a series of Instagram Story posts on July 6, saying she felt obliged to speak out about it “to clear up any rumors.”
But mainly because “I knew that I was in a place to take a step back and be like, ‘Okay, we need a reset.'”
“I wanted to do it for my mental health, to just get away and decompress, whether it was a day, whether it was seven, or whether it was 30. I willingly did that. That was my choice,” Paul, 31, said.
She further revealed that her time spent in rehab had unfortunately been “weaponized” against her, noting that she believed she “actually did the right thing by noticing I needed extra help, whatever that may be.”
She also mentioned that she had found a medication that had helped her too.

Taylor Frankie Paul Says Antidepressant Is Helping Her

“I found one antidepressant that’s been working really well for me,” Paul said. “I’m going to tell you what meds they are eventually, but I like to test them out first before throwing out the names because they take a while to kick in, and I’d hate to be recommending stuff that I wouldn’t even recommend to myself.” Her comments come after someone close to the star confirmed to E! News that the Bachelorette alum had gone to rehab “as recommended by her mental health professionals” after she and ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen got into a very public altercation this year that caused her season to be suspended.

Taylor Frankie Paul Focused on Family After Rehab Stay

“She’s trying to do better,” the source said of Paul’s recovery, noting the upscale facility specializes in mental health, plus trauma and addiction, “and being focused on her family and being a good mom.”

The mother of three—including Indy, 8, and Ocean, 6, with ex-husband Tate Paul, and Ever, 2, with Mortensen—spoke up for herself after her ex filed for a temporary restraining order against her (the request was denied, per an E! News July 1 court doc).

“My holdback while being trashed and bashed needs to be studied,” she captioned the first selfie, adding an emoji implying she had some dirt to spill. Paul isn’t alone in being open about their mental health. Read on for more stars who have been candid about their struggles…

Penn Badgley

The Gossip Girl star spoke openly about his childhood struggles as an actor, citing “body dysmorphia” as the cause.
“I know that I hated my body and that I just wanted a different one,” he said in an interview with The Guardian in April 2025. In response to gaining weight after his parents’ divorce, he said, “There was just a period, you know, coming out of depression and isolation, where I was kind of just willingly and forcefully jumping—or getting jumped into—this world where the more conventionally attractive I was, the more successful I would be, the more valuable I would be.”
He credited his spiritual life with helping him to overcome his struggles.
“That is what allowed me to kind of push through the disillusionment, all the things I was dealing with, to kind of come back to it all, but hopefully with a certain level of transformation on the inside,” he said.

Eliza Coupe

The Scrubs star has been very open about her unhealthy relationship with food in the past.
“There are some people that refer to it as an eating disorder; I refer to it as my life,” she confessed to the Funny Thing Is podcast. “My drug of choice has always been food, believe it or not. I have done unspeakable things with food.”
Eliza revealed that the situation was bad enough that she started “overexercising” with a “little bit of bulimia” thrown in for good measure. However, despite her openness about her unhealthy past with food, Eliza also reports being very honest about her health and fitness journey too.
“I cut out all the sugar when I was 23, stopped drinking and got into yoga and breathing and stretching,” she told Bon Appétit in 2017. “That was the best fucking Ritalin anyone could ever hope for.”
“I’m an actress with food issues and body issues; that’s the truth,” she continued. “But I want to stop that part of me and heal and also deal with this body in a healthy way naturally by putting the right things in it.”

Katy Perry

While all the people were trying to make the best out of the social distancing to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Firework” singer described how such a situation could be overwhelming for everyone.
“Sometimes I don’t know what is worse: trying to avoid the virus or the waves of depression that come with this new reality,” she tweeted. Katy Perry explained how she was dealing with the depressing moments. “There is not really anywhere to go besides my car. So I go to my car a lot. That is my safe space,” she wrote.

Lorde

“I was on tour and, for the first time, I didn’t have stage fright. Then I felt this thing wrapped around my guts, and everybody in the room felt it too—a sense that there’d been this huge pressure change, you know?” she told Rolling Stone in May 2025. “It just sort of made me realize how much I love and need that visceral reaction to feel my music.”
Furthermore, Lorde stated that the re-evaluation of her mental health and decision to stop using the contraceptive pills have influenced her “expand[ing] my relationship to gender.”
“I feel like stopping the pill severed some sort of tether to a regulated femininity,” she added. “It sounds wild, but I felt like all of a sudden I was off the map of femininity, and I think that really opened me up to things too.”

Carly Pearce

The “What He Didn’t Do” singer opened up about her battle with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
“My anxiety started during my divorce in Covid,” Carly Pearce replied to Bunnie Xo’s question in an August 2025 episode of her Blonde podcast. “But I’ve had crippling OCD since childhood.”
“Over the last decade, I conditioned myself to tuck it all away and deal with it quietly. A few years ago, I realized I needed to return to therapy and do the work because it was affecting so many parts of my life,” she continued. “That’s when I really discovered that OCD was more than what I thought it was; it didn’t start in 2020; it was when I was six or seven years old.”

Ariana Grande

The “Thank U, Next” singer encouraged a Twitter user asking if he knew her therapist, who she said had saved her life, to seek help if he were struggling.
“Lmaoaoo this is funny as f—k, but in all honesty therapy has saved my life so many times,” she tweeted.
“If you’re afraid to ask for help, don’t be; like, you don’t have to be in constant pain & you can process trauma. I’ve got a lot of work to do, but it’s a start to even be aware that it’s possible.”

Kristen Bell

The Frozen star has been vocal about how she deals with mental health issues, from public speaking events to her own Instagram Stories.
She encourages others to do what helps them feel better, while for Kristen Bell, it is a combination of drugs, counting every positive thing in her life ten times more negative, and regular physical activity, according to Health.
