Happy moments began with those words about little Virginia Louise. The baby arrived on May 30, healthy and bright. Eight pounds five ounces showed up on the scale that day. A new chapter quietly opened behind the scenes.
She went on to share that Virginia’s mom, her daughter Ellie, 35, was “doing great,” and joked that Virginia’s big brother, her first grandchild, Jay, 2, is “coping” with the arrival of his baby sister.
Couric, at 69, mentioned being a “very happy Gogo,” that’s what she likes to call herself as a grandma. While age adds its mark, her spirit stays bright with that chosen title.

It was hard missing those moments, she said. Ellie was only six; Carrie was just two when he passed. The years slipped by without him there.
“He missed watching them grow into these incredible young women. He missed proms and parent-teacher conferences and college acceptances and graduations and weddings,” she emotionally shared.
Ellie and Carrie, both 30, are Couric’s daughters with Monahan. After that, she tied the knot again in 2014, this time with John Molner, who came into the marriage with two children of his own.
