Robbie Williams Opens Up About Being On The Autism Spectrum
Robbie Williams has confessed to having a mild diagnosis of Autism.
On being 52, he did mention his autism to the public when he was at the introduction of his brand, “Hopeium,” for Flannels’ Autumn/Winter collection.
Williams’ truthful nature is reflected in the way he opened up about it to the public and continues to share his personal experiences and mental health.

Robbie says that he is using his autism diagnosis as a ‘free card.’
Robbie Williams drew a parallel between being diagnosed with autism and getting the “Free Pass Out of the Jail” card, which in the game is the means of one escaping jail and also in life escaping trouble or consequence.
According to Williams, this disability allows him to concentrate deeply on one interest area to the exclusion of other things that may also distract him. Williams told reporters that he gets such a massive amount of mental input that if there wasn’t any sort of creative activity to divert him, he would have to deal with all of his thoughts and feelings alone, especially when he feels scared or anxious.
Robbie Williams Opens Up About Intrusive Thoughts
Lately, Robbie Williams’ post became a big hit online where he talked about struggles within himself and the recurring thoughts that haunt his mind. These thoughts have been with him a long time since the recent diagnosis that he was both autistic and ADHD, which he thought was a separate illness from the Tourette syndrome he had been diagnosed with back then.
Williams shared his method of redirecting his overactive mind through being creative. According to his own words, it helps to focus on drawing pictures and coming up with jokes as the two things together keep fears from taking over. Williams was one of the first to talk publicly about his Tourette syndrome diagnosis, and to some extent, he also described that intrusive thoughts are part of the disorder.

Robbie Goes into Public Details about Having Tourette Syndrome
In his latest interview, Williams disclosed his Tourette syndrome. The singer had previously mentioned that his experiences with the disease were intrusive thoughts rather than physical tics.
Tourette syndrome is a disorder of the nervous system’s development that may cause a person to have sudden involuntary movements or make sounds referred to as tics. These are physical or vocal manifestations of the condition. The frequency and severity of these tics can go up and down depending on various factors like stress, anxiety, excitement, and fatigue. Talk show host Williams explained that some of the unwanted thoughts he encounters could be related to his Tourette syndrome and not necessarily be caused by something else, especially when there are no obvious signs of the disease.
He Talks about His Autism and Social Difficulties
According to Robbie Williams, after many tough moments in social situations and struggling in new places to the point that one gets lost, it might be autism he was experiencing there. Prior online screening that returned positive results was evidence that he was not autistic, though he had behaviors aligned with autistic traits.
Williams commented that proper diagnosis might lead to discovering what causes him to experience difficulties with being himself in some situations. Williams said that being relaxed and comfortable at home and in bed is what provides him with that sense of security, while being around others is what brings those feelings of uneasiness. He further explained that the situations that made him feel most uncomfortable were times he was in his late twenties or early thirties, and these situations have gradually become less challenging as time has gone by for him.
